Imminent Release: Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection

Forty classic SEGA games are on their way to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

No, I don't have a solid release date just yet, but I had to let you know that the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection would be released imminently.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 game will feature a compilation of first-party SEGA games for the 16-bit Mega Drive and 8-bit Master System.

"SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is a must-have for any SEGA enthusiast," commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director for SEGA Europe. "Fans will get a chance to relive fond memories from these classic games in HD format."

I loved playing Sonic 2 on my Master System 2, let alone the whimsical Ecco the Dolphin. To relive the games in 720p on next-gen systems would be a joyful experience.

SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 early this year. A full list of the included titles can be found by clicking the link.

...this is a must have for me. I remember when my father bought me the Genesis back in 1989 and you could send in your receipt and get two free games. I choose Last Battle and Altered Beast...the good olden days :) I will definitely purchase this collection.

Streets of Rage 1
Streets of Rage 2

Retro collections – invaluable portals back to misspent youth

GamesAsylum: "Amongst various timeless Zelda and Mario titles, incredibly obscure PlayStation 2 and GameCube releases and some soon to be classic Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games sits a few others on our bulging dusty shelves that we wouldn’t even dream of trading-in or putting on eBay.

As the name of this article has more than likely already given away, they’re retro collections. Regular readers will know that we’ve always had a soft spot for these, and so today we’re looking at eight of the best.

Inexpensive and often containing one or two games that would cost a small fortune if purchased for their original hardware, all of these offer decent value for money as well as serving as invaluable portals back to misspent youth"

I love this article. I am one of the gamers who often take a break from the ps3 and 360 to play Genesis, snes, dreamcast, etc.

LimeyOtoko4797d ago

Yay for article love! It just felt like something I had to write. :)

I have to say, YES. They are afraid of fun. All they want these days is Graphics. Its sad really, people that claim to be real gamers and yet they dont care about what makes a game a game: GAMEPLAY.

Squatch834797d ago

'Surely judging a piece of entertainment as childish, a piece of interactive entertainment you’ve only watched be played, never been challenged by yourself and don’t even know the name of is more childish than the actual piece of entertainment.'

This is a comment i agree with. I love games like Mario Kart and Mario, well Nintendo in general... and you get these other people that say its childish and other such things, but im having fun playing my games and i cant say that they are.

Venoxn4g4797d ago

playing these type of games is great.. genesis, SNES ..if not gamecube & Wii I would still playing FPS'es and other boring things :) Nintendo knows how to entertain people.. :) ..and I don't give a s**t what people are thinking about games that I play.. Mario, Metroid, zelda, warioware, rhythm heaven, fatal frame FTW!!!

LimeyOtoko4797d ago

I think Sony keeps a nice balance between the two, but yeah. Nintendo also have a great bunch of the games this article talks about.

Its really unfortunate that they are so many closed minded people in the world. Good stuff!

Totally agree on Super Mario Bros 3. That game is one of the best games of all time. OF ALL TIME!

ianfelmore4820d ago

Agreed! On that note, it is going to be interesting (with the latest news on Mario 3DS) how much of Mario 3 they will incorporate. Given the tail on the logo and all.

Mikit07074820d ago

Golden Axe! Man, I don't remember there being that... much... pink? O_o

ianfelmore4820d ago

LOL! Did anyone ever find out what those bird like creatures were called?

WharenPeace4820d ago

Golden Axe was a fine game. I must have wasted all of my allowance at the arcades.

granthinds4820d ago

I still have dreams about SMB3. That racoons tail... :)

ianfelmore4820d ago

You didn't finished your sentence G, that raccoons tail... was awesome! :)

wingman32x4820d ago

Crap, I saw that logo and thought it was something related to the next Retro Game Challange game. They really need to make/locallize another one.

CherryLu-Chan4820d ago

Likewise .. I thought the sequel was going to finally see a release.

The original is flat out genius - and the biggest love letter to gaming I can remember.

Brilliant fun to play and very, very funny.

WharenPeace4820d ago

Streets of Rage took me back to a simpler time :D These old games still have life in them.
