I think he is taking a shot at those in the media and on the other console, who keep praying daily for the X to fail. It is difficult knowing gamers and the current trends, how the X can actually fail. If that happens, I would be stunned.

Maybe he is a good writer otherwise... but just based on this... nope. It isn't just the headline either. He doubles down on his title in the article, which literally makes zero sense. It can't be doomed to failed and also a success.

Even his "how it will succeed" arguments lack sense.
- The place for entertainment? I think Microsoft already crapped out on trying to showcase their system as some entertainment system. It isn't going to work out with this either.
- The console is expensive, but a bargain. His comparison to the cost of a PC build is pointless. Consoles have always been cheaper compared to the PC. This isn't something special that applies to just the Xbox One.
- It gets developers on their side again? No, it doesn't. This gen is over already. Devs ain't going to ignore Sony's 30 million lead because they could make the X1X version look marginally better (especially when only a few million of these will be sold probably).

OG Xbox did not fail. But came to the party too late to complete with a well established brand .
The Vita was competing in a market where power is not understood or has any importance.

Biggest turn was and still is lack of exclusives
While ps4 was getting exclusives left and right, xbox fans were saying wait for e3 and did they deliver?no. Only a handfull of the games were console exclusive while the rest are timed or multipats
The only new exclusive that they announced (iirc) is lucky's tail
While sony reminded us of the games that are coming (before e3 2018)

For me this e3 microsoft said look at all this game tgat are on our platform while sony said look at these games that are ONLY on our platform

Ps4 released more exclusives during the first half of the year then what ms released during the whole year

This is a transition period, mid-generation, and every game released must also play on the base XB1 so I don't expect to see too many games that will get to fully utilize the power of the XB1X. Many of the games will just be higher resolutions with a bump in performance over the base XB1. But I've always said that the benefit will be seen in games that are developed exclusively for the XB1X (or any console for that matter) which is what I'm looking forward to seeing. That's the problem with mid-generation releases. You can't leave behind your main base just yet.

So why are the download sizes so massive on the X? Resolution alone doesn't require additional assets. You are going to have more detail due to added textures, better lighting and effects, better sound (nothing to do with 4k) and in most cases steadier or higher performance. All of this leads to more emersion, and a better overall gaming experience.
I didn't mention load-times because that has nothing to do with 4K either.

Agreed. The question is WHEN will MS demonstrate these advantages over the PS4 Pro. A year? Two years? Three?

By the time we see this "better experience", the PS5 will have already launched.

I sincerely hope that the X1X does well because I want liquid cooling and Ultra 4K Bluray playback to become standard for ALL next-gen consoles, but they NEED to show us how much better these multiplatform games are on the X1X than the Pro.

I fear that's only your worry, because the "PS division" or how you call them have sold more consoles than the Xbox division in the last years I believe and Sony like Microsoft, doesn't sell only consoles and games, you should rather worry about the Xbox division, not profit-wise, but rather games-wise. Multiplatform games keep their ship above the waves, without them the Xbox division would be already a ship wreck of titanic proportions ...

Still not really understanding the benefit for Microsoft with the X. The article explains that the price point is aimed at a very select group of individuals and that most moms walking into a store will pick up a PS4 Pro or Xbox One S.

The article then goes on to explain that Microsoft takes bragging rights away from Sony about having the most powerful console in the world. Thus, making Sony have to update their marketing scheme for the Pro.

Bragging rights are all well and fine in a conversation but numbers should always be more important to a company. Bragging rights aren't making the X any money without a reason to buy the console. I used to love Xbox but their decisions are going over my head now. Maybe it's just me.

Personally i get the impression ms do not want it to be a huge success in the first few months as they make no profit from it. They are releasing it because they do not want to break more promises. Next year as the tech gets cheaper you will then see a bigger push to shift units. But for this year i wouldn't be surprised if X was limited to 1 million units manufactured. Of course this is pure speculation on my part.
