Hopefully they can breathe new life into this franchise.

Abash2959d ago

If they are announcing it on July 22nd, it must not be that big of a new game or for next year. That's not a lot of time to promote or market the new Sonic title so this has me worried

343_Guilty_Spark2959d ago (Edited 2959d ago )

The breathed new life with a perfectly good Sonic Generations and what did they do? Completely forget about it.

No BC
NO HD Remasters
No sequel

But we got that trash Sonic Boom

filchron2959d ago

Sonic generations was still garbage compared to SA1.

TenkoTAiLS2958d ago

@filchron
Sonic Adventure was still garbage compared to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It's called opinions, just because you didn't like Generations as much as Sonic Adventure doesn't make 343_Guilty_Spark's opinion any less valid.

After Sonic Boom, it's difficult to trust Sega again.

The 10th Rider2959d ago

Well, Sega, yes . . . Sonic Team, however, has made some good Sonic games lately. Lost World was just okay, but Generations and Colors were both good. Unleashed had good day time levels, even if overall the game was bad because of the werewolf segments.

For the first time in a while I'm actually intrigued by what Sonic Team will have coming next. They've been working on the next Sonic game for a while now.

Germany72959d ago

I didn't like so much Lost World, it's really weak in comparison of another 3D platformers made recently.

Generations was great, i didn't play Colors and Unleashed, but i've heard great things about Colors.

The 10th Rider2958d ago (Edited 2958d ago )

I haven't played much of colors, but outside of the colors gimmick what I palyed was good. Unleashed had some great daytime levels, the rest stunk. If they just keep the core gameplay from generations, colors, and unleashed the game would be great.

"Please trust us again, we're sorry for Sonic Boom. We're going to do better"

<Announces Sonic Boom 2>

¬¬

The 10th Rider2959d ago

Sonic Boom isn't made by Sonic Team, though. It's been known since Sonic Boom info was coming out that Sonic Team was also working on a Sonic game, which will likely be the next true Sonic entry.

Unless you're referring to the announcement of a Sonic Boom Fire and Ice release date . . . But that game was announced a while ago, they just revealed the release date.

AKR2959d ago

In all fairness, it's a joint-blame between SEGA and Big Red Button. It's Big Red Button's fault for trying to "spin" the formula, and it's SEGA's fault for simply hurrying them along to get the game out on shelves. Just like Sonic 06, if the developers were given the proper time, then perhaps it could have been a decent game.

The 10th Rider2958d ago

Eh, it might have been okay. But the game was clearly aimed at the same audience as the TV show, which is younger kids. No matter what it never would have been the type of Sonic game most people would want.

cant wait for sonic boom 2, plz sega make sonic longer and eggman fatter

PhoenixUp2959d ago

I want to see a high class 3D Sonic that's outperforms Sonic Generations and another quality 2D Sonic

generalwinter2959d ago

How about a 1st person pov sonic VR game? Now that would be cool.

PhoenixUp2959d ago

That just sounds nauseating for many people who are subceptible to motion sickness.

Something gimmicky like that shouldn't be done.

generalwinter2959d ago

Well it's essentially what is done with mirrors edge

PhoenixUp2958d ago (Edited 2958d ago )

That's a bad comparison.

- You don't run as fast in Mirror's Edge as you do in Sonic.
- Mirror's Edge is a platformer built for 1st person, while Sonic has always been a 3rd person platformer.
- A non-VR game has less of a chance of causing health issues than a VR game.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken28d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake28d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing28d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
