Devil's Third Review | GameRevolution

GR:
If it were not for the Wii U’s considerable lack of third-party support, Devil’s Third would effortlessly slip underneath the radars of Wii U owners, never to be heard from again. Sure, it may have been crafted by the once-capable hands of Tomonobu Itagaki, most notable for his acclaimed revival of the Ninja Gaiden series back in 2004, but it feels like the reason why Devil’s Third has been the subject of so much conversation is because it’s one of the only Wii U games that hasn’t been developed by Nintendo that has threatened to achieve a modicum of popularity.

oh another childish review how funny /s

FullmetalRoyale3156d ago

Have you actually played the game, and if so do you like it?
I'm not really sure what you are trying to prove. Are you just trying to will it into a good game?

jholden32493156d ago (Edited 3156d ago )

I don't think anyone here is going to argue that this is a great game.

However, just because a game isn't that good doesn't mean it deserves 1/10 scores and 3/10 scores. it's become a race to the bottom to see who can dish out the lowest score for this one. It's not professional.

Judging by Japanese reviews (Famitsu scored at 7/8) and user reviews (Amazon JP, Miiverse, etc) it's safe to assume that this is a mediocre game, but not horrible and with some merits (mainly MP).

But the reviews in the west have been vengeful and spiteful, and let's be honest here, we all know why. The game wasn't that great, and when initial reviewers playing it voiced that opinion, Itagaki blamed it on their skill.

This is payback.

Ol_G3156d ago

I do have the game and its actually fun once you get used to switching between melee and gunplay wich is fast the game is not quite up to todays standards but its definitly not a 1 more like a 6 or 7 tops

StifflerK3156d ago

I agree with OI_G + I have it too.

It does have it's flaws, but it's also good fun most of the time, I'd give it a 7/10 overall (6 for the campaign/ 8 for the multiplayer.)

SteamPowered3156d ago

I didnt think it was immature. The author clearly stated what the issues were. Low framerate, crappy characters, jarring perspective changes, all seem like flaws worth reporting to me.
Its a lot better than "it sucks" and leaving it at that.

fanboysmackdown3156d ago

So he didn't like it, quit your crying. Review scores on Metacritic have it sitting at around 42% which means the game is pretty stinky. If you think it's a 6 or 7 hooray for you. Why do you think just because you sorta like it, everyone has to like it as much as you?

Yui_Suzumiya3156d ago

I agree but it'd still enjoy this better than any GTA.

Ol_G3156d ago

Your going immediatly on my ignore list for attacking withouth reason i'm not even gonna bother with a response

Spotie3156d ago

The game is pretty bad, but this score says it's not even playable. Haven't seen that elsewhere, so I'm gonna say this one is for the clicks.

bOObies3156d ago

A 1, really?? Wow. Haven't seen that in a while..

Featuring_Dante3156d ago

Bet he didnt give that to more deserving games like ac unity

Talk about a kick in the nutter butters

naruga2669d ago (Edited 2669d ago )

this game creator payed his idiocy to change the development for exclusive release on a dying hopeless console with the best way ....the game was generally good i liked it and was the closest thing to a hardcore Ninja Gaiden we could get on new consoles ....but literaly its creator was idiot as f..k to undermine his game (it was obviously downgraded for Wii u) and release it exclusively on a underpowered system for some cash, destroyed his name in a moment

rjason122668d ago (Edited 2668d ago )

Oh boo hoo. Someone didn't get a game to come to their system.

@Edmix
Believe me I know the feeling haha, just pushing out a similar statement many others make, just cause.

ShaunCameron2668d ago (Edited 2668d ago )

@ rjason

Apparently.

@ XisThatKid

How did they ask for it? You know the company responsible for the engine used to make the OG game went under forcing Itagaki to scrap it and start over, right? Not to mention THQ, its original publisher, eventually withdrawing support before going under. As for it becoming a Wii U exclusive, Nintendo was the one willing to help Itagaki with the funding to finish making the game.

_-EDMIX-_2668d ago

This is easily one of the stupidest investments I've ever seen any company ever make for an exclusive by a third party. I'm surprised you think the game is any good at all because I don't really believe the Wii U made this game bad, believe it was going to be bad regardless of where it was. The Wii U has a handful of really great games please do not blame the hardware for how crappy this game actually is. To my understanding when you create a game for a specific piece of Hardware your job is to adapt. So do not blame the hardware for why this game was horrible blame the developer for even downgrading the game in the first place as opposed to adapting to their situation. If you have to downgrade a game so significantly that it begins to affect the design and quality you're probably not supposed to be downgrading it in the first place to such a platform. I don't blame the platform in this respect I blame the developer because they chose to continue despite knowing the hardware differences. The regular Wii U exclusives don't have that problem because they were made to actually work on that platform...

@rjason- could be because it sounds to me like he basically likes the game but he's angry at the decision of it being exclusive somewhere else

XisThatKid2668d ago (Edited 2668d ago )

I have not felt so selfish about a game before. I like many waited and waited patiently since this games release and out of no where Wii U exclusive. At the time i didn't have a Wii u and honestly i wanted it for ps3 but that never happened nor for 4. Anyway i honestly am glad this happened. Save for the innocent dev and people involved But i never wanted a game to fail so badly. Not to mention when i finally played it i think it sucks imho. I'm fine with exclusives but when a game's announced for your console or platform of choice then retracted they're asking for it.

bouzebbal2668d ago

he had no big name to start with.. this same guy did the same to DOA4 and Ninja Gaiden for 360 and in the end he talks s### about Team Ninja about NG3 and DOA5. He's a loser !

blackblades2669d ago

Ikr it looked interesting in the beginning before it became an nintendo exclusive. Don't know what happened when it became an exclusive.

_-EDMIX-_2668d ago

Who knows , it was probably always going to be bad.

Ravenor2668d ago

A lot happens when a game gets developed. A proof of concept demo or pre rendered video being received well doesn't necessarily equate to a game game being good.

BLKxSEPTEMBER2668d ago

I'm still looking to buy a copy at a reasonable price.

ocelot072668d ago

Depends on where you are located. Here in the UK you can pick this up for around £12.

BLKxSEPTEMBER2668d ago

I'm in California. I haven't seen a hard copy yet.

xMANB3ARP1G2668d ago

bro you wont they made so few copies they are mostly locked in cages atm in ppls collections waiting for the value to skyrocket.

BLKxSEPTEMBER2668d ago

Yeah that's what I figured.

xMANB3ARP1G2668d ago

i only say that because im in the same boat all physical copies near me were scooped up day one and ebay had a field day

alfcrippinjr2668d ago

and this is why we should not support nintendo any more
they done it with the wii and they killed the ds off for no reason.

total bad for business

ShaunCameron2668d ago

Um. You can still get the main D3rd game, albeit digitally. The only thing they killed here was the online multiplayer.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2668d ago

Wait why are peopole acting like they care now? You didn't when it was released.

gangsta_red2668d ago

Yea, I haven't heard a peep or a whisper of this game since its debut.

gamer78042668d ago

its the principle of it, i don't like seeing any games shut down so quickly

Chaos_Order2668d ago

I don't think Itagaki is crazy for making a Wii U exclusive.

I think he's crazy for pushing out a half baked, flawed as all hell, generic gore fest on the Wii U without making use of any of the console's specific features, and throwing his toys out of the pram when people criticise it.

The ups, downs and future of Tomonobu Itagaki's Devil's Third

Tomonobu Itagaki, outspoken former leader of Tecmo's Team Ninja and current leader of Valhalla Game Studios, has spent the last eight years of his life working on the action game Devil's Third.

PhoenixUp2716d ago

Sucks to spend eight years on a project only to have it flop

MilkMan2716d ago

Love the interview. He's a great developer and I liked Devils Third.
