Getting Your Origin Account Hacked Is A Terrible Experience

"Video game, always online, account hacks are something that you hear about quite often in the current stream of gaming, but getting hacked is something that you never quite expect to happen to you. This was me before today. Typically, I would assume that these people that got hacked were somehow at fault themselves, maybe they clicked on a phishing link, maybe they have contracted a virus. But, now that it’s happened to me, someone with a degree in Network Security, I know that it can happen to anyone out of the blue. This is my (Attack On Gaming's) story."

Mine actually got hacked about 2 months ago, and I had no problem getting refunded my ~$200. Good customer service for me at least.

Getting Origin is a terrible experience, to begin with.

I would of agreed with you a couple years ago but after experiencing UPlay, Origin isn't too shabby. I've come to realize that it could be MUUUUUUUUUCHHHHH worse! In all honesty, I have not had too many issues with Origin. But I don't use it daily and I haven't been hacked....yet...

About Uplay, I agree with you: uplay sucks. But that doesn't make Origin any better. Lucky you that you haven't been hacked yet as you say, but there are things worse. Try to erase your billing info for instance. Or try to use the support effectively. Among other issues.

Origin is as bad as uplay, if you ask me. All my (gaming) friends had problems with both services since they exist. It's around 500 people. I can't ignore that. On the other hand, only 5% of those 500 people had problems with steam. What more can I say...

That sucks. I'm just ignorant to the issues that many are having with Origins. Honestly, even though I have around 20 games on it, I only use origin for a few games (DA:I, BF4, sometimes some KoA). You don't need to explain yourself any further. It sounds like Origin definitely has quite a bit of problems... which doesn't surprise me being EA and all. :/

When Origin first hit, I would agree with you 100%, now however I would disagree. Origin isn't great by any means, and I vastly prefer GOG and Steam to Origin, but it mostly does what it needs to do, get the hell out of the way so I can play my games. If Dragon Age: Inquisition, wasn't on Origin I wouldn't be using the service, but since it is...it's okay.

My account got hacked last week, all fraudulent purchases (FIFA15 among other games) were refunded. Only problem is that according to EA, whoever used my account to purchase FIFA15 did not respect FIFA15's ToS, so they closed my Origin account.

I'm still trying to dispute the closure of my account, hopefully they can sort this out...

Hey, I won't be back in the office until next Monday, so if by then you're still not having any luck shoot me a PM and I'll try and find the right person(s) to email internally and help out!

Hey, thanks for offering your help. I received a reply from EA, and they removed the penalty on my account. I'm just happy it got resolved before the sale on DA:Inquisition ended I guess.

paul-p19883830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

so they acknowledge that your account was hacked, but won't reopen it as the hacker broke their ToS, yet the original account holder didn't break those ToS so you have to suffer...

I hate Uplay.

origin has actually improved alot.

Example I played BF3 on hacked servers and totally stayed away from Origin until BF4 came out and I haven't had any major gripes about Origin. (paid for BF3 so don't even start that pirate crap)

Origin is far from Steam but it's better than Uplay which seems to have used Gfwl as a model because Uplay sucks.

Absolutely insane. Man I'm hope they land on their feet EA needs to get the shit together badly....

This is why this industry has slow releases and none compelling games.

Why would anyone willingly work in the VG industry or specifically for one of these globocorp organizations that put you in constant fear of losing your livelihood based on terrible choices made by idiotic management, not the people with talent making the actual games?
