Bungie on Destiny's Lack of Story, The New Raid, and Destiny 2 - PSX 2014

IGN - We sat down with Deej from Bungie to ask him some tough questions about Destiny's launch, current state, and future.

Doubt he will ever admit that it was an early access release, I hope they can fix the story.. will see if that is promising or not in a few days.

I just think it's going to be tough to salvage any story in Destiny. I hope they do, but retcon/shoving it in post-launch isn't easy especially since it was so clearly just stripped to the bones at launch.

Here's hoping Destiny 2 will be a lot of the same gameplay, but just amplified and refined with a better story.

/agree They could just "fix it", and add special bonuses to revisit the story in a hard mode, but.. ya, I have my doubts. I then ask myself, how the heck are they going to salvage the story in a part two? You'd have to assume that everyone has been reading the grimoire. Which no one does! I love the gun play, raid, but the rest kind of sucks.

Couldn't agree with you more. Maybe if they put cards up during load times I would read them but if I have to go to a separate website I'm sorry that is a poor job with the story. They should just let me go see the speaker and him narrate every card I have when I click on it or something.

I am guessing that the new expansion will be the one & only expansion. Destiny 2 will have a campaign mode. But hopefully there will be two campaign modes. They have to make up for Destiny 1 having no campaign mode & then a campaign mode for Destiny 2

Bungie will definitely need to address the storage issue very soon. Good to hear that is on the agenda. I'm close to capacity, and I broke down some weapons I would have probably kept if not for this problem, which annoys me quite a bit. Of my rare/blue PvP-only weapons, I've only kept my Silvered Hushwind-D and Stranger's Rifle. I had no room for the rest.

Acquiring 3 new weapons from Iron Banner and the pending release of lots of new gear in this expansion will cause a great deal of storage problems for me unless I get some more space.

I'm excited about the new raid, though. I am still missing a few things from VoG, so I should have plenty to do all week with 2 raids, nightfalls, weekly, and daily missions.

For PVP only, yes, I do keep a few rares. The Silvered Hushwind-D auto rifle is outstanding for PVP. Attack rating does not count in the Crucible except in Iron Banner events.

I'm kind of curious why I got majority disagrees for what I said previously. Do people object to the idea that we need more vault storage space? That's mostly what I talked about. Seems like a rather pressing need to me.

Don't even talk about Destiny 2. Bungie said they would only make a sequel to Destiny if they earned the right to do so. Well, guess what? You haven't. You promised so much and delivered so little. The gunplay is fantastic, but everything else is just so poorly designed.

@ Pygmelion Hunter. The contract was on this site when Activision got the rights. By installments, I mean Physical games, not DLC. Right now they are in agreement for 3 full-retail games. DLC will obviously be much more than 3.

I get it, but this is Activision we're talking about here. They might still be able to offer an even more attractive contract to Bungie in order to produce more entries in the franchise. The money is there for both sides. And if stale franchises like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed are still getting yearly releases, who's to say Activision won't follow suit with their more recent gold mine?

Selling over 7 million copies solidified a sequel, regardless of the complaints people have. Millions still play the game daily even though many other games have come out that reviewed higher.

Such a terrible answer regarding matchmaking. I think choice should be the key thing that they give players. If I have 5 other friends that want to play a raid together, then we would play the raid together regardless of whether or not there is matchmaking.

For many people who don't have many friends playing Destiny, and who want to spend their free time playing the game, not sitting on the Bungie forums trying to recruit people to their friends list, they will never end up playing a raid.

This is bad for two reasons. The first reason, is that people like myself are not able to play the content that we've paid for, and the other reason is that they are including major story elements that people like myself wont be able to experience.

Since I bought the Digital version on PS3 with the expansion pass, I will continue to play this game once in a while, but I doubt I will bother with Destiny 2. Too many things lacking in this game, and too many poor design decisions. This is not something that I expected from a Bungie game. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, so I'll be spending my time on other games instead in the future.

After having played through the raid about 30 times, I damn sure want nothing to do with matchmaking. You need everyone doing their job, and that just don't happen with randoms. That said, I know other people want it, but it's not likely happening. There are alternatives though, and Destiny official forums is probably not the way to do it. There are a handful of other fan sites where players are always ready to team up though. Worst case scenario, make friends in-game. People are always inviting me and sending friend requests. These are all workarounds, and they might not be ideal, but not making any effort won't get anything done.

Agree with you on the raid part, but I still want Matchmaking for the Nightfall, weekly, daily, and story missions. I could have had so much more fun leveling my alts if I could have played with others through the story. Probably would have made some friends too.... so much for a social experience. I feel so isolated when not doing PvP or Raiding. Which for an always online game is a bad thing.

Sure , and truth be told , i dont even fathom why people would go into such a game without making sure they already had a few friends going in ... but still it's hardly unfair and wrong to ask that he was provided tools to socialize WITHIN the game .

A game that was advertised for two whole years on the story alone no gameplay was seen for that long and it turns out that they wasted two years when the story can be explained on the back of a napkin.

People keep saying this and look where it has ended up. People said this about COD, then Halo, and now it's "2015". Yet, almost everyone on my friends list still plays this game and are eagerly awaiting the DLC. I know some people don't like it, but a LOT do and this series will only grow to get better and better.

I had a lot of fun playing this game with my buddies, but I have to admit that as a whole, the game is pretty awful.

And I'm super pissed at myself that I bought the stupid guardian edition and have already paid for the DLC's that I don't even care to play at this point.

Destiny was a let down for me this year. Shame of the year goes to Watch Dogs though. At least Respawn flat out said there's no traditional campaign from the get go.(my XB1 GOTY)... Bungie hyped the hell out of this and the campaign was trash. The VO was brutal as well! Havent played since completing smh "it gets better after lvl 20" ..what a joke

Ehh I'd say the story is only part a lot is left to imagination. And to me its one of Tue best games I have ever played its like call of dooky and halo mixed with a little parallel kingdom mmo aspect with gear leveling and classes and mixed it all together to one bad ass game a lot are all salty with the story but i say fuck it PAC man had no story tetrus had no story this game has a story and it hints at it and its not bad I'm here to play the game not watch a movie and they are still adding to it soooo people now days calling them self gamers and having overly high expectations need to shut up a bit were the story lacks the game picks it up and play is amazing co op online story. Only main issue is the having to be online to play at all witch is sad for those who wish to play ofline story.
