Trevin's opinion on just how far the mobile gaming platform has come.
Game Rant sits down with Diablo Immortal developers to discuss the Tempest and the team's approach to designing an all-new class for the franchise.
«Tempest» with water and lighting, blue-green color scheme, wow, so original. I've got a new idea - «Volcano» with power of fire and earth, brown-red color scheme, ain't it great?! /s
Cinematic in the trailer is so cheapely made, for anything Blizzard-related, it's such a shame. Also, looks like they combined monk and blood knight(?) abilities, kinda makes it look like an afterthought.
How the mighty have fallen...
Minecraft's abandoned augmented-reality spinoff is well-positioned for a comeback, should Mojang invest in making it successful.
Yet another leak for the ASUS ROG Ally X points towards as much as 8 hours of battery, but how does that compare to the competition?
Honestly, I really like this updated version. But it doesn't solve the biggest flaw that the original had for me: the Z1 Extreme APU. Yes, it's an extremely powerful part, but it is not part of AMD's Adrenalin driver update program, so it's dependent on Asus for driver updates. And unfortunately, Asus doesn't have a stellar record of support for their devices.
Up to 8 hours basically just means the least demanding games. AAA gaming at highest wattage would probably be about 2-3 hours which is good compared to just about 1 hour with the current ally. The OLED Deck can do about 2-3hrs.
Nope. The only improvements I want to hear is better customer support. Otherwise, I can't be bothered.
It hasn't come far enough for me to waste precious battery life on it when I could be using it to check up on news and various internet sites, or listen to music, or more importantly, make calls to my important people.
Phone gaming takes up way too much battery power for me to make it a main function, and I don't ever want to be in a situation where I NEED to make a call and pull out my phone, only to realize all that gaming earlier has drained the battery.
"Oh crap, this person needs an Ambulance! ....
DAMN YOU ANGRY BIRDS!"
Not gonna be a thing that happens, in my lifetime.XD
As you said "A standard PC will perform fine, but to really run games like FF14, a dedicated gaming PC would probably be highly advised."
At this stage mobile gaming equals "a standard PC", while the 3DS and the Vita equals "a dedicated gaming PC".
But with that being said, I also acknowledge, that this is probably the last gen for dedicated handheld gaming (speaking about the Vita). I am however not worried, because with the current speed of mobile evolution, handheld gaming looks very promising.
A mobile will probably in a few years time run PS Vita quality games (without major battery drain), and with a nice gamepad peripheral, it is something to look forward to (not to mention the prices).
"Flappy Bird"
Specs-wise, mobile gaming has left the 3DS in the dust and, given the right developer, can achieve greater graphics than the Vita.
Obviously, the low price most people are willing to pay for a mobile game (15$ is considered very expensive, while a Vita game can cost up to about 40$), and the limited control options are still holding mobile games back.
But, while some games need the use of a controller to play well (most action games), some games work very well on a touchscreen. XCOM, Final Fantasy (1 to 6) and TWEWY are great examples of mobile gaming done right.
Hopefully, in the coming years, mobile gaming will move away from the dreadful freemium model and the cheap 99 cents games, as the hardware shows great potential, as long as it is used in a smart and well-thought way.
Its getting there, You can run games like half life 2, or starcraft 2 on $200 windows tablets. Another 3~4 years and youle be mathcing the xbox 360 and PS3 without breaking the bank.
