Everyone who has played Destiny knows that it's heavily influenced by the MMO genre. By not embracing this label from the start, Bungie hurt their game.
Bungie - "Join our development team to see the new updates arriving with Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Releasing on June 4, 2024."
Amid ongoing anxiety within Bungie following layoffs last year, the studio is now preparing for another shakeup, this time on Marathon.
Talk about mismanaged Bungie is a studio of tremendous potential and have made some of the greatest shooters to date. Sony pushed them to just make another Destiny style game and consult on other studios live service games and are now getting thrown under a bus as the pivot away from predominantly gaas games is unfolding.
I'd love to see a world where Bungie can focus on telling great sci fi stories again away from a live service dungeon but we all know that's a pipe dream
This studio has had three owners and its never worked well with any of them....Management has issues
Destiny 2’s game director Joe Blackburn is stepping down ahead of The Final Shape, leaving Tyson Green to take the reins of the PS5 and Xbox FPS.
As someone who bought every story DLC for DESTINY 2 but not every season. the first thing I would do as game director is , if anybody pre-orders The ?Final Shape , they will be able to play all older DLC and seasons with purchase of FINAL SHAPE. . I think that would bring back a lot of DESTINY 2 plsyers who have not experienced the seasons a chance to play season activities before Final Shape comes out.
I think they hurt Desinty by going the MMO route.
All it needed was co-op...that's all. Then in the sequel or DLC they could added comepetive play
They tried to do everything and failed
Least with building up a single player game with co-op, you create an amazing single player you can play with friends. It honestly felt like they did the story first and threw in the co-op last.
Disagree.
I wouldn't have bought it if it were an mmo. Can't stand MMO's. DCUO was the only one I liked and that's mostly cuz I'm a DC fan.
Its not a MMO though...
Destiny is lacking in a lot of areas...
First, its story is generic and lifeless. You just get no sense of caring about it...
Second, it is all about a grind. You get nothing without grinding.
Third, it should have separated itself more from Halo. I play the game and think, "Gee, this is pretty much Halo with more weapons and upgrades"...
Fourth, They force the online upon you rather than catering to both SP and MP players...
Fifth, The tower hub is a waste of time and warping to new maps is a waste of time.
I could go on all day. The basis for a very solid game is there, but in the end it is really a game that is built around grinding and MP... That's not bad, but it is more of a niche game then a broad appeal game that I think Bungie was hoping to create.
I enjoyed playing Destiny for the most part but with the emphasis being on levelling up thru co-op and story missions it comes to an end quite quickly.
Now that's not unusual with fps driven games but generally there's the other part of the game that ends up dominating, the mp competitive arenas and Unlike BF, Quake, UT, CoD etc etc gameplay arenas that have me wanting to play again I don't get this in Destiny and there are so few maps sometimes you can end up playing the same tiny map time after time.
Such a waste of all those large landscapes they created.
