Does New 360 Banjo Kazooie Deserve All The Hate?

Stephen Totilo:

"I saw or played 45 new games last week in San Francisco and Los Angeles. And if you asked me which one I heard the most negative things about, I wouldn't hesitate to reply:

'Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.'

The vehicle-based platformer for the Xbox 360 from legendary development studio Rare was getting some of the worst response. People who played it were shaking their heads. Is it's first impression a deserved one?"

it certainly has no love. I don't know about hate tho.

It's AIMED for kids more or less.

SO, for those xbox owners that have their hopes up for this game, then hope no more. It's a average game at best and I don't think it's going to improve much.

Edit: lol at comparing LittleBigPlanet. He couldn't admit how much Better and more FUN LittleBigPlanet is to this. He just said that "it's a safe bet."

sonarus5820d ago

In general, gamers don't really like change. For a very highly anticipated PLATFORMING game to emerge as a 70% vehicle game it will leave a lot of people disappointed. In time people will come around to it but most people (myself included) would have preferred a good ol traditional platformer

falviousuk5820d ago

WOW didnt realise that you could play the new banjo and LBP games yet. you must be special to have played these allready to have formed your opinions about the games.

Me ill wait till i get to actually play them before i decide on whether a game is good or not

chaosatom3335820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

I have read the article. And based my opinion on that.

How is it that every knows gears will be good?
How is it that every knows that resistance will be good?

It's because they have read about what others have said about the game and known the developers' pedigree.

jaja14345820d ago

And a year ago all of the articles said how great Lair was going to be, yet look how that turned out...

Now saying LBP is going to be some huge failure, but...

power of Green 5820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

People would have complained on way or the other who cares. people take themself way too seriously.

Its funny how you know its an average game based from his opinion but dissagree that LBP is not some revolutionary product as he put it. You form an opinion from what he said about Banjo but wan't to throw what he said out the window from his hands on experiance with LBP. lol

Folks would have complained with the new direction and they would have also complained if they added nothing new just giving it a next-gen face lift.

I do understand why you were quik to write it off as *average* considering PS3 titles are being tagged as *average* left and right.

The dude should have not mentioned LBP anyways its nothing more than a Beefed up XBL Arcade tittle, does it have a point or story?.

This must be great news to PS3 fans, kind of a morale piece making you feel better about PS3 and its 2008 lineup lol.

chaosatom3335820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

If not, then the answer is average.

I DIDN'T SAY THAT IT'S AVERAGE. I said that it could be average.

I agree with you POG that it could be a lot worse than average, but that's why I said "at best an average".

I also agree with you that he shouldn't have mentioned LBP with Banjo, I mean come on, it's LBP vs Banjo, they are not even in the same league.

Tmac5820d ago

Here we go with Power of Green putting his spin on everything.

fenderputty5820d ago

It's almost like you're trying to discredit everything you ever said and will say with one sentence.

Ri0tSquad5820d ago

"The dude should have not mentioned LBP anyways its nothing more than a Beefed up XBL Arcade tittle, does it have a point or story?."

Lol, are you kidding me? Even the Mart thinks LBP looks good. Stop pretending LBP is anything comparable to any game on XBLA. You only make yourself look that much dumber and attached to Microsoft.

Willio5820d ago

@ Power of Green

Metacritic has claimed xbox360 has more average games than PS3 just so you know according to EGM.

power of Green 5820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

Thats based on the ratio of the sizes of the two lineups lol. 360 has more hits and what I said can be used as an excuse as well.

WTF are you talking about anways are you 12?. Strange reply.

LastDance5820d ago

why on earth is this game NOT on the wii? thats like holding a lollie pop infront of a kid and giving it to a adult who will just throw it away..

cop a load of that crap.

SCThor5820d ago

Probably the wii couldnt handle it.

DanB915819d ago

heyheyhey5820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

yes, why take a glorious platforming series and turn it into a Jak X-style flop?

mikeslemonade5820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

I question what Microsoft is doing because they own rare($337 million to own them) and they gotta know in the back of there mind that they do need a platformer. I can't think of another platformer on the 360 besides Kameo.

Homicide5820d ago

Microsoft is screwing up Rare.

Rock Bottom5820d ago

Rare last AAA game was perfect dark on the N64, from there they went down hill and couldn't make another AAA game.

This might be their last chance to prove them selfs again as one of the best developers ever, the chances are slim though.

LaChance5820d ago (Edited 5820d ago )

BK on N64 were incredible. But I have to admit when I heard it was 80% vehicles I was VERY dissapointed. But there must be a good reason for them to do that.
They are the ones who know how to make a great game not us.

PLEASE rare make Banjo as good as on the n64.

I still dont understand why didnt they just make a next gen Banjo.Geez even a remake would make my day.
I still have faith in this game though

Xlll5820d ago

Most of the people from the N64 days at Rare already left a long time ago. This is all BK is gonna get.

Bacon5820d ago

It's a little too focused on vehicles this time around and as far as the platforming goes it's not really trying anything new.

Condoleezza Rice5820d ago

80% Vehicles? Not to say that the game won't be good(seeing as I have yet to demo it),but for a traditional Platformer to place soo much emphasis on Vehicle gameplay&mechanics, well,le t's just say I'm not as interested nor hyped up for it as I was.

Breakfast5820d ago

I agree. But, we have to wait...i guess.

iamtehpwn5820d ago

is not the BK I grew up with. That's horrible. If it really is 80% vehicles, I will not pick this up

permutated5820d ago

I'd have to agree. 40% vehicles is OK, but any more than that I wouldn't even consider it a platformer.

Sucks too, I was looking forward to this game until now.

I want a new Perfect Dark, Banjo and Jet Force Gemini.

Bathyj1339d ago

I actually don't want them. I'm not a big fan of Microsoft rehashing IPs they had nothing to do with creating just because they happen to own them.

Before you call me fanboy tell me a game they did that to that actually lives up the the original?

Just leave our beloved memories alone. You want to bring something back, redo crimson Skies or Brute Force. At least they were your games and they need updates.

gamer78041339d ago

I'm all for The Initiative rebooting perfect dark as a third person though, sounds like its trying something new and not just rehashing with a new coat of paint with this idea. Hope we see a tease of it in the next showcase.

gamer78041339d ago

Rumor is The Initiative is working on rebooting Perfect Dark in third person, normally I wasn't a fan of taking existing IPs but if its something new like this I'm up for it.

jznrpg1339d ago (Edited 1339d ago )

Don’t give them the Battletoads treatment .

TravsVoid1339d ago (Edited 1339d ago )

Donkey Kong Country is probably my favorite game of all time but I've not connected with much else Rareware has made since other than maybe Killer Instinct. Sea of Thieves has got to be close to my worst $60 purchase I've ever made.

sagapo1339d ago

Viva pinata was kinda fun imo.

Ugh Musashi: Samurai Legend is so meh. Don't understand how you can go from Brave Fencer Musashi to that. I really want a Brave Fencer Musashi HD Remake or a true sequel. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

I actually liked it for what it was. But then again I'm not a Banjo fan. I actually hated a lot of the N64 style games that all followed the same Mario 64 style. Except for Conker.

IRetrouk1753d ago

I really enjoyed this game, the building was fun, I thought it was a well made platformer.

Vits1753d ago (Edited 1753d ago )

I kind of agree. The game had many new ideas that would have worked better in a new IP as people wouldn't be so upset that Nuts & Bolts played so differently from the older titles.

PhoenixUp1753d ago

I seriously hate how angular the redesigns are for so many of the characters in the game

The X06 trailer built people’s hopes only for the final release to ruin those dreams

-Foxtrot1753d ago

Damn right it should have

Can we just get Banjo Threeie and write this game off as Kazooies bad dream or something. An in game joke.
