All the rumours were true! There you go guys confirmation from the main man! here I come ps4

''With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.''

Some good things. Some bad things. Overall mostly good but I'll wait to see further details once this thing is actually put into action.

Obviously, Microsoft is going to make this EXPERIENCE sound NEW and EXCITING so don't take it for face value. There's still a lot of ambiguity and vague phrasing.

Good:
- Microsoft doesn't insert their own fee, but no word if publishers/stores will insert a fee
- Day One Digital (finally). Microsoft is getting with the times
- you can play your games via cloud/install, either at your own house or a friend's house (sounds like a solution to something that wasn't a problem, but whatev. It's the future)
- anyone can play your games on your console (we pretty much already knew this)
- games can be given away

Bad:
- seems to confirm that renting, lending, or otherwise playing a friend's game without your friend being logged in is a no-go
- 24-hour check in confirmed
- you can only trade in your game via "participating retailers". How will private sales be handled (if at all?)

Confused:
- "each game can only be given once" Obviously a person can't give the same game to 8 different people, but can the recipients pass the game along? I'm curious to see how this will work. Can they give it back to you (allowing lending?)?

Godmars2903976d ago

Don't forget if they ever move onto another system or stop the service, all you'll have is a blue ray player.

HammadTheBeast3976d ago

After you're given it once, it can't be given again.

Also, the Cloud gaming at a friends house only works for one hour.

dedicatedtogamers3976d ago

@ Hammad

It can only be given once? Laaaaame.

And the cloud gaming thing only works for one hour? Will it work more than an hour with the disc installed? This sounds terrible but I feel like we don't have all the details yet (not defending MS, just asking pertinent questions).

MikeMyers3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Give your games to friends:
"Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

There you go. Much better than the fear-mongering we've been seeing.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games:

"Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games."

See the part where it says MS does not charge a platform fee?

Regardless of the new details we will continue to see familiar folks retain that same negative image towards the Xbox brand.

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

Awesome.

Bring on E3!

EDIT

@Why o why,

Renting to me is awesome because it's so hard to rent games in my area. This is something the consoles should have been doing on their own years ago. That's one of the things I like about Playstation Plus, you can play some games for free for an hour. I would love to play games for a rental period of maybe 24 hours for a reasonable price.

Why o why3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

You call that 'awesome'... the ability to do what we've done since the dinosaurs gamed....you really are super loyal to ms... credit to ya. You, j porkins and a few other can almost see no wrong with ms's strategy. Yes, some will hate for hates sake which is annoying but others will defend as if ms corp is a defenceless innocent newborn. There are people in between who JUST DONT LIKE THIS. guess we all should just change our names to Ben Dover

Salooh3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Short way :
Buy physical disc > Install the game to the (console) and to (cloud in your account) > Play the game anywhere you want as long you log in to your account > The other accounts in your console will have unlimited access to the games (Like the ps3) But 10 family members can access your game library anywhere they want > You can give only one friend your disc without fees > You only can sell the game to retailers (Fees depend on the publishers) .

No loaning and renting in launch .. They are saying it like if this is a positive thing lol. Headache >.<

kneon3976d ago

The cloud gaming at a friends house only works for an hour unless it can check in over the internet again.

But with the size of games today do you want to wait for game to download every time you go to someones house?

They've tried to loosen things up a bit but overall it's still pretty negative.

One thing that is not mentioned is that you can't permanently give away a game to a friend. You can sell it via certain retailers but only they can take back your license and reassign it to a new buyer.

Bzone243976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

@Hammadthebeast

"Also, the Cloud gaming at a friends house only works for one hour."

Complete misinformation from you multiple times in this topic. You will need to check in once per hour online to play the game. Not the works only one hour of play lie you are trying to spread.

dc13976d ago

In short:

- Games are locked on to ONE console only or

- A game can be given to a friend ONCE and then blocked from every been shared again... meaning that the game would be married to the second console for life.

Unless ...

- The game is traded through a participating establishment; effectively starting the cycle over again (and passing money back to MS, the Publisher and the Dev).

Grindlefly3976d ago

Also don't forget the small print at the end of each section

"As we move into this new generation of games and entertainment, from time to time, Microsoft may change its policies, terms, products and services to reflect modifications and improvements to our services, feedback from customers and our business partners or changes in our business priorities and business models or for other reasons. We may also cease to offer certain services or products for similar reasons."

So eventually they will charge to trade

gatormatt803976d ago

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

I wonder how Gamefly feels about that statement?

DragonKnight3976d ago

@Mike: "There you go. Much better than the fear-mongering we've been seeing."

Words to remember: Publishers, CAN, Enable, and only given once.

This still isn't good.

"See the part where it says MS does not charge a platform fee?"

Oh how charitable of them. It's because they're already charging for Live and allowing publishers to charge instead.

"Awesome."

Oh yes, not being able to loan or rent games is totally awesome indeed.

JokesOnYou3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

"Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you."

"Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."

-I have a mixed reaction, 24hr check ins, Kinect, are fine with me, DRM has pluses and minuses as I can now still share games with friends it just isn't as consumer friendly as its always been, all in all at least micro listened and its obvious they made some concessions from their original plans, its not perfect but nothing that's a deal breaker, actually for the original owner some of the sharing functionality is more convenient than in the past.

jivah3976d ago

Fck that. What good is the xbone to me if i cant get to play on deployment. There is tons of down time there and constant tension that usually gets relieved by playing videogames

badz1493976d ago

WORST GAMING PLATFORM EVER!

Bigpappy3976d ago

Here is where I stand. I have been reading a lot about this whole use game thing and the rights of the buyer. I hate to get into these conversations where everyone is just hot headed and they don't care to hear each other out.

I would prefer for the use game thing to stay as it is so we can trade or sell or rent or disk. The reality is the digital download world is how things will work going forward.

What M$ is offering now is actually better sharing than we have on 'Steam' or any other download service.

What I am hoping for is a reasonable agreement between the publishers, the retail and us (the gamers)so we can continue our ecosystem even with the Digital Distribution.

What publisher need to be mindful of, is that if the customer looses that sense of tangible ownership, some my start to question the $60 asking price for big name games.

But yea. Most of what we play going forward will be DD games.

Sorry if that offends any one, but I can only write what is in my mind, not yours. So you just have to get over it I guess.

Ritsujun3976d ago Show
Tatsuya 3976d ago

there's nothing good about this at all when the overall scale is tipping to the bad stuffs. I really want SONY to take the crown but I never wanted Microsoft to die. Unfortunately, they have now dug their own grave.

fuzzyLogix3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Definately agree on the "Confused":
"each game can only be given once"

First time I read it I thought it meant that if I gave a game to a friend, I could transfer the license to them and they would now own the game, but this could only be done once. They could trade it in (MS reset the license for resale) but they couldn't then give it to another friend.

The second time I read it I thought something entirely different. MS are letting you give the game to a friend for a trial period. You still own the game and they can play it until you connect and play it again. You can only lend it to that friend once at which point if they want to carry on playing they would need to buy it. But you can still lend the game to other friends.

No idea which is right if either at all, but just goes to show MS still need to work on their wording.

tigertom533976d ago

maybe if the xbox one is free, then i can be a slave to the console that sounds good..... :)

SolidStoner3976d ago

Xbone sounds like a nightmare for a gamer... Who in the hell would want to sign a pact with that dark demon MS! With all those decisions you have to see that MS is caring only about earning money.. nothing more...

Lone_Man3976d ago

live in the present dude.

loulou3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

obviously best buy are in. that was why they said not so long ago that m$ had some great things in store for the future. and i would imagine all the big chains are also.

always on is not a deal breaker for me as both my consoles now are always connected.

all in all, seems ok to me. i can buy and sell games just like before.

if e3 shows a large percentage of games that are not kinect junk. then an xbox 1 will be getting bought this year

DARK WITNESS3976d ago

For once we really need to stick to our words on this and not let MS think we are going to change our mind on this

https://www.change.org/peti...

KarrBOMB3975d ago

Reply to Loulou ^^^

You obviously can't see beyond the present day. So let me clear this up... You can not buy and trade games like you do today. The absolute smallest issue will be time. Every traded or sold game will need to be confirmed, thus meaning the store employees need to access an online database and unregister each game. This means longer lines and more time spent just standing there. But more importantly is the pricing. This whole DRM and licensing is to make sure Devs and Pubs get a cut out of every copy sold, regardless of it being a new copy or old one. That means Gamestop and other retailers will pay a lot less for used games.

Now it's already been established that games will cost around $70 in the next gen platforms. As it sits now, games cost $65 after tax, if you took a game back the day after you purchased it, you would get a $25 trade in value. So any games that you buy and than don't enjoy, you currently lose about $40 right away. Since Gamestop and BestBuy are public companies that are traded on the open market, they're going to do everything they can to make up for lost revenue. This means even less for your trade ins.

So yes you can trade in and sell your games as always, they're just going to cost more and give less in trade in value even though they're on newer platforms and are technically more valueable. So by all means Loulou, buy MS's new machine and enjoy getting bent over since you seem to want it so bad.

***We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.***

So, it's up to the publisher if you can trade it in. And, it's also limited to participating retailers, which means you can only sell your games to a retailer. No eBay and likely no to most Mom & Pop stores.

***There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.***

So, the second-hand portion ends with the second person to own the game. And, you can only give it to people you know and is likely done all digitally, not through the disc (you would select a friend from your Xbox friends list to give the game to).

---

Now, what happens if someone's Xbox ID gets banned with this new system? Will they lose access to all non-disc based games as well as the ability to give them away? Will people still be able to play games on a console that they own/play games from on their Xbone?

Godmars2903976d ago

Here's an idea to help explain everything: Bang something hard against your head.

Seriously, how does MS expect people to keep all this crap in mind?

kneon3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Not only are there limitations in lending and selling games but it would seem that giving away a game isn't even possible.

EDIT

Found a line saying that giving away games will be possible for Microsoft published games, but other publishers may or may not support this.

MikeMyers3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

If you get banned I imagine you're screwed. Maybe this will teach people to act civil. Either way I imagine there is going to be some disgruntled gamers out there who think they should be allowed to conduct themselves the way they want online. Microsoft will have to give out warnings or temp. bans unless it is something very serious they can prove which will be easier now that it's always recording for a set duration. Hacking and playing pirated games will be an instant ban and the Xbox 360 had quite a bevy of piracy.

Still, some more questions now pop up.

1. "Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends."

Does this mean your game on the hard drive becomes obsolete or can you still play even though you gave the disc away? This is probably a counter measure of why you need to check in online every 24 hours.

2. "We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers."

Will they provide a list of retailers and how will this work in each country? Say goodbye to E-Bay and Craigslist.

3. "Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One."

So they all must have the same last name or will people just put friends on and will you be able to play the same game at the same time?

Christopher3976d ago

***If you get banned I imagine you're screwed. Maybe this will teach people to act civil.***

The problem is that there have been false bans in the past. With a system so integrated, they need a better system. And, even now, with a ban, it doesn't prevent you from playing any of your offline game content. But, if all content requires a daily check to confirm, will this be the same?

MrBeatdown3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

@MikeMyers

1 and 3 would be unnecessarily ripe for exploitation depending on how it's done.

I highly doubt you'd still be able to play a game after giving it away. Otherwise there's nothing stopping friends from buying one copy and getting two licenses.

And I doubt all ten people could play a game simultaneously. A family would likely be considered those accounts that register the same Xbox as the primary console, so any friends that don't use your system are basically restricted to playing while online on their own systems at home. The fact that you need to be signed in on any console other than your primary one gives Microsoft an easy opportunity to keep it to one player at a time, or two at the most, if the primary console is offline.

MS said "ANY ONE of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time" as opposed to "all" or just leaving "any one" out entirely so that could mean that only one person at a time (excluding the purchasing account) can access the shared games. Not just one person per game, but the entire shared list as a whole.

solidjun53976d ago

"if you get banned I imagine you're screwed. Maybe this will teach people to act civil."

Not surprised you would find anyway to spin this. There have been people banned for no reason. Civility - while I can understand can be an issue while playing online- is not the issue here. Well, I guess to each their own.

JokesOnYou3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

@cgoodno
"Now, what happens if someone's Xbox ID gets banned with this new system? Will they lose access to all non-disc based games as well as the ability to give them away? Will people still be able to play games on a console that they own/play games from on their Xbone?"

-uhm so if you get banned now on the 360 then you aren't allowed to play online(multiplayer), you can still sign in, play games, get achievements etc so I don't see why the X1 will not treat you the same, I mean why do you assume that with the X1/Microsoft simply couldn't strip you of the ability to play online via your ID (like always) while still allowing you to play offline(like always), I mean why wouldn't they? I don't see why digitally downloaded games still wouldn't work the same; if you broke the rules of XBL you get banned from multiplayer, but of course you can log on and play by yourself (like always). There is nothing in any of these new policies that seems to suggest otherwise. Banning which btw isn't very common as some imply is less than 1 percent of all users http://www.shacknews.com/ar...
and I don't see why you wouldn't still have the ability to play offline.
http://www.oxm.co.uk/18847/...
http://www.thetechgame.com/...

Piracy on the other hand is a different matter, but if you're stealing you deserve to be banned, if you are one of the very very few who just unknowlingly bought a previously modded console or whatever then there is action you can take to fix the situation with micro.

the only rumor that was true was 24 hour check in, which I agree is stupid, but wont stop me from buying one. You can share your games with friends and family no charge, but it doesn't matter what microsoft came up with you sony fans will dog it.

T23976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

damn right, people should dog it. I have a 360 but I'm not buying this p.o.s. you can only share with one friend, only sell at specific retailers, for a specific fee that the developers choose? required check in? required kinect b.s.?
That would be a big PASS from here, F U microsoft.

edit - so they just eliminated every gamer who doesn't have internet, or solid connections, and what about XBL fee? any chance that goes away? HELL no, MS is the king of nickel and dime, bend over gamers, MS got a present for you.

dedicatedtogamers3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Wait, excuse me?

- rumor that you can't loan, borrow, or rent games? TRUE
- rumor that MS controls how you can or cannot trade games? KINDA TRUE
- rumor that games are tied to your account? TRUE

Honestly, the 24-hour check-in should be enough to scare anyone away from this thing. But it sure is funny seeing the virals rush to blame "Sony fans" as if they're the only gamers in the world who dislike what MS is doing.

TKCMuzzer3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Strange conclusion. You could also say "no matter what Microsoft come up with Xbox fans will put a good spin on it".

Microsoft screwed up, had no idea how to answer all questions and have gone away and have now tried to spin positive on certain subjects. I would not be surprised if Microsoft did originally have a fee for second hand games but due to the reaction of fans dropped it before announcing it. I even got an email from Microsoft announcing the XBox one is all about games. PR damage control leading into E3.
They should just apologise and say they are listening to their fans, simple as. (even though it looks like their doing the opposite)

HammadTheBeast3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

You can't share, you can only give to a friend once, and its his to keep from then on.

You can also only play games at a friends house for one hour lol.

No matter what happens, people like you will spin this positively. Enjoy having your rights taken.

JokesOnYou3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

@dedicated
- rumor that you can't loan, borrow, or rent games? TRUE

-FALSE: "We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games."

- rumor that MS controls how you can or cannot trade games? KINDA TRUE

FALSE, the publisher will decide same as sony has said so far, when they say they will leave it up to publishers, I'm betting they will have a similar policy still: "Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

- rumor that games are tied to your account? TRUE

YES TRUE but it can be given away or sold which would deactivate it from your account:
"In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends."

24 hr check in is a brief sign in, not a problem for most here given how much we're on n4g. You can play offline after that.

Sykoticz3976d ago

@ whoyouwit04

I have owned so many 360's and one ps3 i was a xbox fan boy. I was still trying to decide which console to get for next gen then i have read all i need to know about the "Xbox one" to decide not to get it because on it i can't

*Take my game to my friends house and play(For example) the next halo co-op with out having to login to my account do all this silly $h!t just to play

*if i move house and im with out internet for a few days what happens? oh yea 24 hour check in

i could say a few other points but i dont really want to waste any more time bagging this thing that has people calling a console.

Garbanjo0013976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Dude I'm a MS fan and i'm very upset about this. This is retarded. The fact is that it is just assumed that a lot of these functions are accepted, they created the new Xbox and basically said "deal with it," or switch. So I'm switching. It's not a matter of MS vs Sony, it's a matter of a gaming console turning into a bunch of nazi's and I don't like it. I don't need a console to come with a disclaimer every 5 minutes or a lawyer attached to it because I supposedly broke conduct with which I "lent a game." It's stupid, I agree with most that publishers need their cut as well of the 2nd hand market, but it's not even so much that they deserve a cut as it is "MS is controlling the 2nd hand market and saying buy from us instead."

I'm just done man, do what you want.

Garbanjo0013976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

I can't wait til E3 and PS drops bombs on MS.

3976d ago
moparful993976d ago

I'm sorry but as a GAMER I am offended by the course of action Microsoft is taking. There has been writing on the wall the entirety of this generation as to the direction we are headed under them. Microsoft is trying to turn the video games market into a controllable asset for their own profit regardless of the ramifications industry wide.

TO say that anyone opposed to Microsoft's selfish ambitions is a Sony fan is presumptuous on your part and you are feeding into Microsoft's will. If you care anything about our medium and where its headed then you to should be opposed to the XBONE.

Angeljuice3976d ago

Actually you CAN rent games at launch, in fact that's all you can do. You can't buy games (as this would imply ownership), but you can rent them at full retail cost!

Angeljuice3976d ago

The fact is you can rent games from day one, the problem is you can't buy games ever (as that would imply ownership). Basically you can rent games at full market price of a game without having any rights to it unless you have Microsoft's consent.

All this dreamt up in the supposed 'Land of the free'. Aggressive capitalism and perceived freedom are both concepts that Americans hold dear to their hearts (apparently) and yet here they face each other on either side of the battlefield. Those of you that have supported Microsoft's somewhat draconian business practices in the past have helped to spawn a monster, now you must decide to either fight it or let it consume you. Game on!

"Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. No wonder Gamestop is not having a bitch fit over this they are probably one of the participating retailers. To bad the consumer cannot chose to sell their purchased disk to whomever they please. I really hope there is an anti-consumer law suit over this. The fact that the game industry thinks they can change the rules is disturbing.

kneon3976d ago

Yes this is actually good for Gamestop since it cuts out any competition from the small guys as well as private selling of used games.

Anon19743976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

On the plus side, Microsoft just saved me probably $400-500.

There's no way that I'm supporting a system that by design will keep me from playing my purchased games unless certain conditions are met. My gaming time is limited as it is. I will not accept restrictions on when and where I play content I've purchased. I'm not so much worried about my internet connection as I am the stability of Microsoft's network and software and suddenly I have another Blu-Ray player and that's it. I spent far too many months this gen with 360 games I was unable to play because something was wrong with my console.

Something always goes wrong, and if history has taught us outside of the US anything, it's that when it comes to features, services and outages, we simply aren't a priority compared to the US.

And that's not even going into the needless restrictions and hoops you have to jump through just to play a used game or the fact you can't even loan a game to a friend or rent a title.

It's about time Microsoft cleared up the confusion. I can see why they were hesitant. They obviously weren't going to be able to block used game sales based on the laws in the EU, but the question was would they attempt to restrict and control.

It's as bad as we all feared.

warewolfSS3976d ago

Anon19743976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Um...I don't think that means what you think that means. Generally, "tinfoil hat" references someone going off on conspiracy theories or something.

I was simply commenting on the facts that have come out from Microsoft's reveal. If you had read the press release, you'd know that.

@warewolfSS: If you heard the news today about the US government tapping Microsoft's (among others) servers, you would see that no conspiracy theory is too hard to believe....

All of you complaining need to realize that if Sony also go the download route using Gaikai they'll need to do something similar to prevent multiple people using the same game. Its common sense. You all want this companies to be successful but you dont want them to make money.

This is a common practice and its always been done like that with software. Take photoshop for example if you are using photoshop in a computer linked to a network only that computer can have photoshop open unless you buy lincences for the other computers.

dumahim3976d ago

Sony has already said you will not need to be online as they understand there's a lot of people without access to broadband across the world.

iceman063976d ago

What you are missing is that there is still a choice of physical media vs. digital. The general thought around Gaikai is that it will be the means to obtain some sort of "backward compatibility" and supply/support new games via the cloud. Currently, the cloud is only really used for save backups for PS+.

fr0sty3976d ago

@Darth

And by doing so you are sending a clear message to companies like Microsoft that it is ok for them to restrict us from using software we purchased how we want and that it is ok to require a camera to be connected and listening/watching any time the unit is powered on. By doing so you encourage other companies to follow suit. By doing so you therefore harm the industry as a whole.

Gamer-Z3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Did anybody else catch this?

"Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers."

So basically everything is totally up to the publishers, you have no control over what you do with your copy of the game. Also this contradicts that there wont be a used game fee, maybe MS might not charge you a fee but 3rd party publishers still can.

This is just sickening, i won't support this.

Perjoss3976d ago

My xbox 360 has been connected since the day I bought it on launch, so checking in every 24 hours is not really a problem for me. I also never buy used games so whatever.

I fully understand some people being angry over some of the features of the One but for me, as long as it has games and a few good exclusives like Halo, Forza and Gears then I be buying it on day 1.

And in case anyone cares I game on all systems, currently getting my teeth into Ni No Kuni while I wait for The Last of Us and Animal Crossing to arrive. Totally loving Ni No Kuni, amazing soundtrack, stunning visuals and an interesting combat system.

Game on...

wampdog293976d ago

What about having a camera/mic always watching? You heard the news today that Microsoft's data is being tapped by the US government, right?

MRMagoo1233976d ago

K this is not a fanboy comment at all , but what about everyone else, what about ppl with no internet ? what about ppl that can usually get games but cant afford full price ? what about ppl that rent games they cant even rent games any more ffs ? I can bet you the majority of gamers often rent games before they buy and when they do buy its second hand.

iceman063976d ago

So, you are their demographic. However, there are many others (especially in other countries) that might struggle with this online policy. I know that might not be import to the "endgame" that Microsoft has business wise, but as a gamer that does kinda suck for OTHER gamers...especially Xbox fans.

justiceot3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

@iceman06
I'm pretty MS isn't ignorant enough to be unaware of that. That being said, future profits may very well be software-driven rather than hardware itself, in accordance with their business plan.

DARK WITNESS3976d ago

OK check this out....

I bought the original xbox and went online with that. my connection has never been off (apart from moving house) moving to the 360 I have still always had full internet hooked up.

I don't really buy used games because I like to get my games on launch day.

So really I could say none of the stuff MS is doing really bothers me. As long as they still have great games like Halo, Forza, I have plenty of reasons to still buy the Xboxone....BUT I WONT ! INFACT I REFUSE TO !

why? well I too game on multiple platforms, quite simply it's the principal behind what MS is doing and the fact that I like gaming too much to want to support a company that seems to want to destroy everything I love about it.

This coming gen it will be PS4 only for me. I will still keep my 360 but thats it.

Perjoss3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

@ DARK WITNESS

I think you're right, after reading some more articles that have popped up today I'm starting to get a really bad taste in my mouth about where all this is going. I've decided to not buy a One at launch and wait to see if they change any of their policies about game ownership.

For now I think I will upgrade my PC and stick with my WiiU for now and then buy myself a launch PS4.

wampdog293976d ago

I think something else has to be said about what's going on. I don't know how much of you pay attention to the news, but today it was found that Microsoft is one of the companies that's allowing the US government to tap their servers. Now, do you think it's such a great idea to own a camera/mic that is ALWAYS on and connected to the internet. I don't. I know a lot of you would bring up the whole "grab your tin foil hat, you crazies," but I think this is now a definite worry.

SilentNegotiator3976d ago

Stop calling them "rumors"

The "rumors" started from MS's VP's comments, in which he already told us about 24 hour checks. Three weeks ago.

They were only "rumors" because Microsoft pretended not to know their own (already announced) policies and Xbox fanboys were more than happy to go along with the idea that they were "rumors"

fuzzyLogix3976d ago

I really don't understand why they need to do this. Surely a license gets read from the disc so they should be able to give people an option.

If you're connected to the internet then you don't need the disc as it verifies the license via Xbox Live. If you aren't connected to the internet then it tells you to pop the disc in and verifies the license that way.

I guess the only issue with this would be if I installed the game and played connected and gave the disc to a friend who never connected their console to the internet and played through the game entirely offline. But realistically how many people are going to do that?

KRUSSIDULL3976d ago

TheSurg3976d ago

No, only one or two rumors were true. Rest is fale.

"Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families.

Among bad things like 24h lock this family stuff is actually good! I can have few friends be as my FAMILY, we can buy 1 game together and all play it unlimited on ANY XBOX ONE (as long as we don't play in the same time I guess)

Also you can still trade in and resell your games.

TheSurg3976d ago

Any on you read the article? You can share your games WITHOUT limits on ANY XBOX ONE with up to 10 family members. Make your friends your family and here you are sharing your games with them, all of you can have them installed just don't play at once the same game. How is that not good?

That makes legit consumers jump through unnecessary hoops and i wont be going anywhere near the XBone....a now adopted title for a bonehead of an idea

Rainstorm813976d ago

UnHoly_One3976d ago

I'm not saying that this should make it "Ok" for you guys, but when is the last time you went more than 24 hours without internet?

The last time my internet was out for an extended period of time, it was out for about 16 hours, and that's because I am moving and Charter Cable disconnected me the day after I set up the service transfer, instead of waiting until the day I told them I was actually moving... lol

I don't know about you guys, but this has Zero impact on me whatsoever.

The "family" thing is awesome, can share library of games,That means I can access my families library from another console. But one hour is barely a demo, make it at least 5 hours a day.

ThatCanadianGuy5143976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Wow. just wow.

What about those without internet connections? Screw em from playing offline content? Wow... Microsoft, wow. You've reached a staggering new low.

The used games still come with restrictions handled by publishers and "select" retailers. They are still removing your first-sale rights. In NO OTHER INDUSTRY are companies dreadful enough to think people shouldn't be allowed to sell on their used products to whoever they choose.

They just handed it over to Sony, that is if prior assumptions hadn't already done so. I've always known MS were scummy, but admitting all of this is intense proof that they just don't give any f**ks about the consumer. And I bet this isn't even the half of it.

blackthorn53975d ago

it indeed sucks, but again this will be for all systems not just Xbox. Sony just hasn't announced it yet. probably afraid to after watching the response to microsoft. but they will.unfortunately this will be the future of gaming. not to diffent then PC gaming.

DigitalRaptor3975d ago (Edited 3975d ago )

If Sony does the same, I think my head would explode. It would be a massive kick to the nuts.

But I don't see it happening, because Sony are also selling Vita games alongside their PS3 and PS4. The discrepancy between how games and DRM is handled on each device would be very noticable and indefensible.

It's the same theory I had that Sony won't charge for online play, because Vita already offers that for free and it's a fairly new platform.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle2h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Sonic18819m ago

I thought darthv72 and Obscure_Observer already work for Microsoft 🤔

Cacabunga2h ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff21831h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga28m ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

Profchaos1d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto1d 11h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos1d 11h ago

Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”

Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever

Nice one ☝️

Zeref12d ago

It's better than what Nintendo and Playstation is doing. It might not be perfect but at least they are TRYING. Unlike the others.

DarXyde11d ago

Trying? Take off the blinders for a moment, mate.

1. A failure to preserve games is just that: a failure to preserve games. Don't try to sugarcoat it: NO ONE is doing it properly. Better than awful is nothing to write home about.

2. At the time of this comment, isn't it the case that you need an internet connection to play Xbox games even if you buy physical discs that are hardly in circulation anymore? I don't have a Series X and I can't verify, but I think that is correct. I'm fairly certain you can at least play PS5 games at version 1.0 (not much of a win really when many games require day one patches). I think Microsoft's all digital, licensing approach is by far more aggressive than anyone else's. They really try to push you to game pass where you lose your entire library by umm.... Skipping a month of payments.

I don't think anyone is doing it right whatsoever. Don't get me started on Nintendo, who goes after anyone looking to preserve their games better than they ever would with extreme litigation.

Don't be a simp for any of these companies. Get it together.

PhillyDonJawn11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

@DarX never speak on Xbox again. You lost all credibility with your internet connection comment. Smh you have 0 clue and misinformed yet speaking on something you don't no squat about.

Einhander197211d ago

What has Sony done exactly? You guys keep deflecting to Sony but I am not actually seeing any results, and ai am certain nothing that you can come up with even comes close to what Microsoft has done and what they have tried and failed to do, like tie all your disks to your account on xbone.

Microsoft removed their whole indie section when they moved to the xbone because they were going to only allow games on the service that came from a publisher, id@xbox started after xbone launched and it only exists because Sony embraced indie and Microsoft was forced to cancel their plans and reverse course.

And every single game that was part of games for windows live including disk games (I have gta 4 on disk that won't work) so hundreds of games that use that DRM no longer work unless the company themselves patched it out which of course very few did.

MrBaskerville11d ago

Not trying. Tried. they killed of the backcomp program years ago. They set something up again, but sounds like it's more of an attempt to save the current library on whatever they are planning next. With luck they save everything and more, but let's see. I could see them killing off parts of the OG xbox and 360 libraries. Can't imagine that they would allow us to play Forza 5-7 in the future.

With that said, I do like what they've done and really wish they could have done more.

shinoff218311d ago

Zeref

So killing off physical media is trying what exactly. Ms don't really give a fk if you think they do your kidding yourself.

Is that why Hellblade 2 is digital only?

Zeref12d ago

Just because it's digital only doesn't mean you can't preserve it. Just put it on an external and you have the exact same functionality of what a disc does.

MrNinosan12d ago

Guess you're trolling, but if you actually think that's how it works, I'd recommend buying some braincells.

mkis00711d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Volitile vs nonvolitile data. A disc will not corrupt either. A drive can be corrupted.

Einhander197212d ago

This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.

No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.

Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.

12d ago
Zeref12d ago

Do you know you can put your games on an external and preserve them that way? There are no benefits to discs. ZERO. Idk why some of you are still obsessed with them.

DarXyde11d ago

Because games like Persona 5 exist. It's STILL V1.00. On Playstation, that's a win because 1.00 is installed on the disc—no need to download anything.

If a game does not require any updates, it's all on the disc.

Extremely low bar in the modern era, of course. It's not much of a win by any stretch.

But for now, physical media does have a purpose, at least on Playstation.

Einhander197211d ago

That is factually not how game licensing works, try plugging your hard drive into someone else xbox, It's not going to work, and it won't work if the licensing servers ever go down.

Einhander197211d ago

Anyone remember games for windows live.

I have around a dozen games, some on Steam itself that will not work because Microsoft shut off the licensing servers.

You can take a copy of Persona 5 like someone used as an example and play that game on ANY console WITHOUT logging in which means I can lend the game to a friend without internet and they can play my game. Can you lend your hard drive to anyone without logging in for them to play? NOPE. That is a huge difference and if you think otherwise then sorry you're an idiot.

"No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft."

Ubisoft is literally erasing games people bought from their libraries... My PS1-3 discs are useless on modern hardware. Nintendo's re-published and resold almost their entire Wii U library, and the eShop is completely dead with no BC mechanism in the Switch software. Microsoft publishes everything they make today day one on Steam and Xbox/Windows. Sony only brings to PC the titles they think you might want some years later and Nintendo won't even design a functional long-lasting joystick.

You're absolutely trolling and not serious if you think Microsoft today is the worst offender.

Yay steam

Not everyone fks with computers though. The disc is still the best way as a console player. Period.

How do Sony and Nintendo feel about these discs from 2001-2013?

Don't be stupid, you know Xbox is the best at this today.

Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?

Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.

That is not their plan, their plan is to transfer users accounts to the cloud.

Phil Spencer himself said as much a few months back, plans could have changed but I think people are reading way too much into one statement where Phil said he would allow Epic on xbox because he wants to be able to sell xbox games directly on other platforms. Aka, instead of selling Sea of Thives through PSN he wants to have an xbox store to sell his games on PlayStation without giving PlayStation any money.

Again, it's extremely unlikely that Phil plans to put PC on xbox and licensing would prevent them from just giving out other publishers games purchased on xbox copies of thier games on PC, Microsoft does not own their games.

The thing that doesn't align with the cloud strategy is the giving up on exclusives. You'd still need strong exclusives for cloud streaming - it's still a "platform" , just with a lower upfront hardware investment. I feel like they've learned what PS learned with PSNow long ago. We're not ready to stream games and it's only gonna lose them money to try at this point

I would love that, I'd buy up some of the Xbox games if they could run on PC, like the Rare Replay, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive Ultimate, probably a pipe dream though.
