It wasn't because of romance but my heart broke when Zelda: OoT ended and I must admit it broke after SS too.

Lol... Mass Effect 3 wasn't heartbreaking because Shepard 'died'. Especially since in two endings he DOESN'T die. (Unless you consider becoming an avatar for a god to be 'dead' then he only survives on ending).

The reason so many fans were heartbroken had nothing to do with the supposed demise of Commander Shepard. It had to do with the demise of the series lore and integrity by what many, many consider to be the most disappointing ending in video game history.

We were lied to, betrayed and spat in the face by a company that many people, up till that point, had a lot of faith and respect for. I seriously doubt you'll hear someone list "Shepard died" as a reason for resentment and depression when they discuss what they hated about ME3.

Still bitching about it...

There is a difference between bitching and stating facts. You don't have to agree with the mindset so many shared about the ending but it would just be foolish of you to completely overlook it.

I wasn't "bitching", I'm simply saying it how it is. The real shocking thing is that someone can make article talking about heartbreaking moments in a game, mention Mass Effect 3 and its ending, and then claim the biggest heartbreak from said ending was that Shepard dies.

The wording in the article is heavily suggesting that the only reason ME3 received so much controversy from its fanbase is because Shepard dies and people were distraught over his passing. That simply isn't the truth and we all know it.

Honestly they could had used anything else from Mass Effect 3 other than 'Shepard dies'. I believe its far to say that more fans were upset to see Mordin, Thane, Legion, or Anderson die (in some cases in very dramatic and gripping fashions) then they were over seeing Shepard died. Most people infact probably even expected Shepard to die.

Shepard's death was not what made so many people become vocally displeased about the ending. It certainly wasn't the most heartbreaking death in the series. Again, the deaths of Mordin, Legion and Anderson were all much more emotionally gripping and heartbreaking then any of the possible deaths Shepard can go through.

Mordin's death I would've agreed with, that scene was probably the high point of the entire game.

Shepard's death was just stupid, not to mention it could be avoided if you war asset # was > X.

Let's look at his 3 original deaths:

1. Dies and takes control of the Reapers right after as scene of him telling TIM just how stupid the idea is. He literally forgot what he was saying 5 minutes after he said it.

2. Forcibly turn every living species into hybrid's through magic without ever asking them whether they're ok with this. Even if it was believable, unilaterally making the decision to change the genetic makeup of every living thing sounds more in line with what a villain would do.

3. He shoots a red tube until it explodes, which somehow activates the machine instead of, you know, breaking it... Futhermore he walks into the god damn explosion despite the fact that he's using a GUN. There is no reason for him to walk up to something explosive before shooting it, he's literally committing suicide for no reason here.

ME3's ending was heartbreaking, but it wasn't because of the death of Shepard, it was the death of Mass Effect's narrative coherence.

LOL Nicole from Dead Space? Seriously? We never even met her! We were just talked at by her hallucination a few times in ways that made it obvious something was off, and mute Isaac sometimes shook his head.

This guy clearly doesn't understand how to develop a character and pretty much just picked people who died because "death is dramatic by default right?".

Edit: Scratch that, his personal display icon under the article is the MW3 logo. Compared to that ANY form of character arc would look like a godsend.
