The 10 Strangest Videogame Petitions of All Time - AusGamers

If we've learnt anything in the past few years, it's that gamers feel like they're an entitled bunch. Often their expectations are met with some form of reason, but in more recent times we've definitely seen a loud voice for the strange emerge in the developer request department.

The whole hubbub surrounding the Mass Effect 3 ending, for example, split a community down the middle and had punters questioning creative freedom and player entitlement in massive, time-wasting conversations, but it was the more recent DmC: Devil May Cry petition addressed to US President Barack Obama that took the cake. So we've taken it upon ourselves to uncover the 10 strangest videogame petitions of all time.

I disagree with a few of these as being considered 'strange'.

1. Haze. Never played the game myself but I can understand someone loving a game enough to not want to see it get canned. Shutting down the server is a big move that, while it may not hurt the majority, will always disappoint a select few who still enjoy it. Opting for a peer-to-peer system that doesn't require the developers to maintain a server for people to play would be the better route to take, imo. That way, least those few would still be able to play if they felt so inclined.

2.Dedicated MW2 servers. Never played MW2 either (shock!) but I can understand gamers wanting to see some dedicated servers options for better reliability lag-wise. Especially for a game that was as big of a hit as MW2 that probably still has a fairly active online presence (unless it's been taken down, I wouldn't know either way).

3. Mass Effect 3's ending was not only terrible it was also a lie. They said we would not get an A,B,C type ending. That's what we got. Red, Blue, Green. It went against everything we were promised and ruined a beloved series in its level of story oversight and plotholes. Someone sells you a game promising to have tons of choices matter and specifically saying it wont come down to a series of A,B,C finally then turns around and does exactly that, don't consumers have a right to feel a bit betrayed by this? Don't really see that as strange, myself. But to each their own.

4. Whats strange about making a petition to get some details, literally any details, about Half-Life 3? A petition is pretty much a glorified poll to see how many people want something. They didn't run the petition through the government like some crazies (getting the government involves is a bit too far for a video game, imo) they just made a group of Steam, far as I can tell. Perfectly reasonable, imo.

Some of these examples definitely belong on a list of 'strange' video game petitions but then there's a few others that seem more like they're just tossed in the group to help even the number up to a nice round 10.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

God DMC2 was an awful game.

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

5 Years Later, Devil May Cry 5 Still Quenches My Hack-And-Slash Thirst Like No Other

Mass Effect 3's Ending for Javik Misses the Forest for the Trees

Based on one narratively fitting ending in Mass Effect 3, Prothean squadmate Javik is highly unlikely to return in the next Mass Effect game.

He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
