The Wii U has been great for my marriage

GameZone writes, "My wife doesn't really play video games. She had an episode with Spyro when she was younger that she doesn't like to talk about, like a relationship that ended badly where she did some things she's not proud of. And then there was the Animal Crossing phase on the GameCube, where she didn't play for two weeks and when she went back into the game, all of her neighbors were mad at her. That stressed her out quite a bit. So I guess the reason she avoids video games is that she can't disconnect herself and feels bad if something bad happens. That was until I bought a Wii U."

What a good read, I'm recently discovering Nintendo again after a long while too, I plan to buy a Wii U soon, probably January. (hopefully some good sale bundles will appear)

Skylanders on the wiiU is a blast with my son who is 4 1/2. First game that i really enjoy playing with him. easy but still not too easy on him.

brbobcat4173d ago

Nintendo has done a great job appealing to kids and females who may be too intimidated with the complex controls of the Xbox 360 and PS3. Glad you and your wife can share an interest in gaming together!

mcstorm4173d ago

I am really enjoying the WiiU too and my other half is liking it as well.

The new MarioU is a lot of fun and imo back to the good old Mario days.

ZombieU is imo the best horror game ive played for a few years and it looks amazing too.

I really do think Nintendo could grab a lot of the core market with the WiiU and if they do then MS and Sony will have some work to do next gen.

cleft54173d ago

I completely agree with you and this is definitely a good thing. Competition makes for better games, so I am glad to see Nintendo be able to compete on that HD level while continuing down their own path.

mcstorm4173d ago

I agree. I see next gen being even closer between all 3. I will still own all 3 consoles but I can see the WiiU becoming my main console for 3rd party games this gen where the 360 is my 3rd party console at the moment.

Tzuno4173d ago

Wiiu aimed for families not hardcore gamers.

browngamer414173d ago

Because families are gonna just love games like Ninja Gaiden, ZombiU,Call of Duty,Darksiders,Bayonetta 2 and Monster hunter 3...

cleft54173d ago

If you read the article you would know that the guy writing it is a games journalist who brought the WiiU. His wife started playing the WiiU with him and that is leading to her being more interested in gaming in general. The WiiU is acting as a gateway to other games like League of Legend, which is definitely a hardcore game.

dredgewalker4173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

That's not exactly a bad thing, most of the gamers this gen started off with Nintendo consoles. Most PS3 and 360 games are geared towards the older crowd and may not appeal to a parent with a young child. I'm not saying that the Wii U is for children but it has less violent games that children won't be exposed to.....then again they're already exposed to it with most tv programs.

lifesanrpg4173d ago

Aren't all games for families? I hate the term "hardcore gamers". Just let people play whatever they want.

Even if it is meant for families, who cares? What's so wrong about having someone who has never played a game before having interest your game syste?

MNGamer-N4173d ago

It's for both, like they say. My kids play Mario, Sonic, & Nintendoland, I play CODBO2, ACII & ZombiU... best of both worlds. Hopefully they will continue to provide such a great focus on 3rd party throughout the life of the console.

ahronith4173d ago

My twin son and daughter are almost 3 years old...looks like i will be introducing them to the wide world of blood, sex, and rock & roll...at least thats what your logic tells me about the Wii U is only for families.

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic10d ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.

Wii U games that still haven't been ported to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga17d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

Profchaos17d ago

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas17d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj17d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger17d ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
