With Super Smash Bros., Fire Emblem Is on Its Way to Becoming a Premier Nintendo Franchise

CraveOnline: "The announcement of Robin and Lucina is something of a final drive to propel Fire Emblem to Zelda levels of quality and industry respect. Does it sound crazy? A little bit. But anyone who spent time with Fire Emblem Awakening last year knows it’s perfectly possible."

A Wii U Fire Emblem would be cool. Awakening is amazing!

novacav3588d ago

Agreed! If Smash can hype up the series then a Wii U entry could be perfectly timed. They also have the SMT x Fire Emblem crossover for Wii U in the works.

Concertoine3588d ago

I honestly think the nintendo directs sold that game in the west. The series was never this popular before awakening.

The amount of JRPG success on 3DS surely helped as well.

I'll probably catch flak for pointing this out, but Fire Emblem "was" a premier Nintendo franchise in its homeland. It wouldn't be becoming one. It would be returning to one.

Its actually been in steep decline. Awakening just managed to keep the Franchise above water as far as its head developers were concerned.

How the writer drew the title from that is beyond me.

yup my first fire emblem and loved every minute

I might re-buy FE:Awakening and then all the DLC.

I bought it day one and only downloaded the 1 free dlc and I bought another for $3.99

I thought I remember seeing a list of like 20 different DLC you could buy which I'm guessing increases the replay value of the game.

I can't believe I sold it, as it's a great game.

EcoSos33587d ago

I check all the dlc and it will cost at least $50+ for all it.

Nintendo has always done a good job of finding that sweet spot when it comes to gaming. They may not always have the largest chunk of the market, but they do seem to have the loyalty of the masses.

novacav3588d ago

Definitely. Even during dark times they never do anything TOO alienating (though they have cut it close a handful of times).

Recently though, even with Wii U struggles pre-E3, everyone seemed to like them well enough.

MilkMan3588d ago

Fire Emblem was always hot. Guess it took more people to find that out. I've been playing that series for years. Always loved it.

SteamPowered3588d ago

Same. Not to be the hipster " I was into it before it was cool" but I cant believe nobody took note of this series before now. Played the series since GBA. Cant wait for it to hit mainstream and hopefully crank one out for Wii U.

FE was of the first series I thought of when announced the Wii U. It just seems built for strategy games. A Wii U Fire Emblem would be amazing.

Here's my idea for what the could be like:

All of the menu selection, and tactical gameplay is done on the gamepad/touchscreen with cinematic troop movement in full 720 or 1080 on the main screen. All of the battle animations would also be on the main screen with the playback controls mapped to the buttons on the gamepad. Essentially, it would be exactly FE:Awakening did on the 3DS, but in HD on the Wii U. Would that not be absolutely amazing?

Fullmetalevolust3588d ago

I love Fire Emblem as a series, and I can't wait to see more of SMT x Fire Emblem :) is there any gameplay available yet?

randomass1713587d ago

Sadly no. I don't think we've seen anything since the first teaser. :[

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
