Destiny’s late 2014 launch is a good thing

Gamezone writes, "A lot of people seemed a bit shocked that Destiny, Bungie’s highly anticipated game, isn’t releasing until September. “Spring 2014’ was attached to the game’s release after E3 somehow. Thankfully, that’s not going to be the case; the E3 build looked absolutely nowhere complete."

Agreed. This game seems very ambitious in its scope. It covers multiple planets, a deep mysterious story, places and items to discover, with multiplayer events folded into the experience. Expect a great campaign, seamless coop and vast open world environments.

Also, Bungee scores points by offering up a beta. This allows them to collect feedback. The initial release is guaranteed to be very solid and fine-tuned.

Battlefield 4 had a beta and we all saw how that turned out...

However, I'm fine with the developer taking the time they need to get it right and not rely on patching the heck out of it right after launch.

A7XEric3773d ago

Yea it had a beta that was conducted 3 weeks before the game shipped. I wonder why it had problems.

Destiny has been in development for twice the length bf4 was and the beta is supposed to drop in the spring not right before the game releases. So I think we're in the clear for this one.

DeadlyFire3773d ago (Edited 3773d ago )

Betas are always within the last month or so before release typically for every game. 2-3 weeks is typical. DICE relies entirely on the Beta to patch the game. That is their own fault.

You should expect the beta to be delayed as well.
http://www.gamespot.com/art... <<< Destiny Beta begins Summer 2014. Basically August. Somewhere between 1-4 weeks before the game is launched. :)

I am not understanding how Activision plans to sell CoD next to Destiny for the holiday season.

I'm hoping for a good game, but I haven't enjoyed single player in a bungie game since halo ce

wonderfulmonkeyman3773d ago

It'll be a good thing only if it gives them the needed time to avoid making it like Skyrim was early in its own life; riddled with bugs and mistakes.

If Destiny needs a delay to fix those from being complaints when it launches, then I say I agree with the article; it's a good thing it's releasing later.

Duke193773d ago (Edited 3773d ago )

Good! Way too many rushed games nowadays, glad they are taking the time to get it right

showtimefolks3773d ago

when i originally read about Destiny on ign it said something like Borderlands done by Bungie and i almost passed out lol

2014 is just a huge year for next gen consoles

Watch dogs which was rightfully delayed is gonna be amazing
Drive Club the true next gen racing game
Witcher 3 what else can i say
Infamous 2nd son, first great super hero game of next gen
The order 1886

these are 5 games that have me so excited along with Destiny

MysticStrummer3773d ago

Bah. I haven't been able to keep current on gaming news lately so this is the first I'm hearing of the Destiny delay. Extra dev time is infinitely preferable to releasing an unfinished game, but I am still disappointed to hear it.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter333d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro332d ago (Edited 332d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881332d ago (Edited 332d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell332d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig332d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast332d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername332d ago (Edited 332d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g332d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka332d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai483d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface482d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard480d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
