Super Mario 3D World was made by only 100 people

Nintendo has revealed that no more than 100 people worked on Super Mario 3D World.

hundreds of developers... something tells me that word doesn't mean what you think it does.

Monolith Soft is roughly a 110 is a person development team and Retro is about 150 right now. Nintendo has small teams making BIG games.

WeAreLegion3815d ago

I wouldn't say BIG games. These are all very fun games, but none of them would take near as much work as something like Assassin's Creed IV or The Last of Us. Still, I am incredibly excited for Super Mario 3D World. I have a lot of faith in this development team.

When i say Big i am more referring to quality than scope, although Xenoblade was huge and X looks to be even bigger. Of course this is my opinion but i prefer Metroid prime trilogy and Xenoblade over the games you mentioned.

Ol_G3815d ago

that's actually quite impressive it probably comes down to years of experience

ChickeyCantor3815d ago

Eh, 100 people are a lot. You shouldn't underestimate the manpower it delivers. Assuming you think this is a small team.

Ol_G3815d ago

well in comparison gta5's team was more than 1000 people

ChickeyCantor3815d ago

I'm pretty sure 1000 people did not work at the same time though. People got swapped in and out as well. Production was over a couple of years, right?

Either way a team of 100 is a lot. And easily rockets production into the millions.

Neonridr3815d ago (Edited 3815d ago )

yes but while you said 1000 people didn't work on GTA V at the same time the article also states that 100 people didn't work on Mario 3D World at the same time, that was at its maximum (towards the end of development). 40-50 is what the regular team size was for a lot of the development.

ChickeyCantor3815d ago (Edited 3815d ago )

Neon,

I didn't dispute that. I was referring to his "years of experience" for them able to pull it off with "just" 100 people.

I was simply pointing out that 100 developers is a lot of manpower. Too much even if they all worked on that mario title.

Im sorry but Nintendo need a bigger team 100 ppl to make Mario 3D World really this is why ZeldaU is not coming out anytime soon

deafdani3815d ago

You apparently aren't aware that Nintendo has several teams appointed to make different game franchises. The team making Mario games isn't necessarily the same team making Zelda games.

As of right now, we know absolutely jack shit about the Wii U Zelda game. Nintendo could have 200 people working on it as far as we know, or just 20.

I really don't know how you came to this conclusion about Zelda U not coming out anytime soon.

The only reason it'll be a while before we see the next home console Zelda is because Nintendo ALWAYS take their sweet time making Zelda games, with development times of around 4 or 5 years. The last one was Skyward Sword in 2011, so I expect Zelda Wii U to come out in... who knows, probably 2015.

WeAreLegion3815d ago

Exactly. There are many teams within Nintendo. This is currently my favorite though, followed very closely by Retro. I hope we see a new Metroid Prime!

HardcoreDaBoss3815d ago

I Have to agree. I love nintendo but seriously if they increased staff they would be pumping out games non stop.

Agreed. Great for multiplayer.

If they do make a sequel, they should incorporate Bowser’s Fury’s game design into the mix. Think Bowser’s Fury’s overworld where you can find warp points to linear levels like Mario 3D World.

I still say the series peaked with Galaxy. They've put out good stuff since then, but nothing really matched up.

Absolutely no way odyssey should be above either galaxy. Laughable

Forget Odyssey 2 - It's Time For Super Mario 3D World 2

It's time for Nintendo to give the Super Mario 3D World formula another chance with a new game built from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch.

Rather have a new Super Mario RPG.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is my favorite Mario. I'd event take a remaster/remake.

Babadook7645d ago

My favourite Mario’s are Mario 64 and SM World SNES. Neither Odyssey nor 3D World were great imo.
