OnlySP: I was always a great fan of the stealth genre. One of my first ever “stealth games” was Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. I played it relentlessly. I loved the grown-up story and cool sneaking elements from shooting out lights to create your own darkness and using acrobatic split jumps between two walls as well as the lack of emphasis on killing which I was surprised to see in a game.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been out of action for a decade, so it's time to look back at 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Sam Fisher is evidently the most skilled stealth operative because no-one has seen him in his own game for years
The entire mark and execute system belonged in another game.
It’s cool, but the polar opposite to how Sam Fisher initially handled.
The original trilogy made shooting very, very difficult, yet a viable option, which ultimately motivates stealth.
The mark/execute system makes shooting stupid easy, to the point of why would you even bother trying stealth as an alternative?
The sad part is that I actually really enjoyed the last game, Blacklist. It may have lacked the iconic voice but the gameplay was excellent, and blended stealth, action and a mix really great compared to most games, where none of the three options felt like the wrong way to play. I really hope they either produce a remake of the original game or a proper sequel.
When Hitman 3 recently changed its name to Hitman World of Assassination, fans had no idea how meaningful the moment was. On the outside it looked like a simple thing: Hitman 3 would now be known by this name and include levels from Hitman 2 and 3 - the trilogy would all be in one place. But on the inside, at IO Interactive, much more was going on.
You mean destroyed it with this tethered single-player campaign BS... And only the first few levels of the third modern game were on the disc! I'll never support this crap at any price-point! They've lost me as a customer.
The stealth icon has gone too stealthy of late, but the best Splinter Cell games still rank among the best games ever made.
"The Return of the Stealth Genre" in the form of games which are designed for babies who don't like stealth games.
ffs
Ahh, where has it gone before??
These days stealth feels like an RPG game with all the upgrades to make being stealthly easier... I'm not saying its a bad thing but I miss games like splinter cell: chaos theory or the original thief. THOSE were stealth games.
My first stealth game was probably the first Thief game. I know some consider the original Metal Gear to be the first stealth game, but I've just never been able to see it in that light...see what I did there?
To me the stealth genre is dead until i see a Tenchu title.
