NPD: Hardware sales up, Borderlands 2 beats 1's sales by 234%

Joystiq - According to the latest report from NPD, sales of the DS, 3DS, PS3, Vita and Xbox 360 are up on an "average sales per week" basis compared with August, suggesting momentum heading into the holiday season. The Wii U "has the potential to reinvigorate retail sales of hardware" when it drops on November 18 in the US, NPD analyst Liam Callahan says.

Nvm, their comparing sales from last month rather than last year in September (I'm like what!? XD Sales are actually down compared to last year for the PS3, X360, and Wii). But like I said in the 360 NPD report, why is everyone going crazy over there? Everything sold pretty good. No one was "destroyed". There's only a 46k difference between the 360 and PS3. Play games instead of sales people.

Edit: Also, neogaf calculated the PS3 and Wii sales. The Vita sales are in there as well (HW sales increased as well).

You get disagrees for the truth?

Dante is right, the numbers are down from last year. It is absolutely pointless to talk about numbers increasing month over month because numbers ALWAYS increase at this time of the year. You could cut and paste that headline for eternity and it would always be right. The real statistic is how the numbers compare to last year.

The other statistic the media won't want to publish is that this always happens when the next gen is just around the corner, but they won't want to point that out because it doesn't make a 'clickorific' headline. So We have headlines like this that are pointless and headlines that predict doom and gloom

'Everything is as normal' would be a dull headline

As far as software decreases are concerned, people might like to examine the correlation between the fact that 'casuals' buy less software and the heavy push towards casuals with the Wii and Kinect (and partly the MOVE). That's were I think the microscope should be aimed for answers. And of course the lack of diversity from 3rd party is also worth the scrutiny. Focus people on one genre and other genres will suffer.

It's no good scampering off to the mobile debate and thinking you have a quick and easy answer because consoles have sold more this generation than last generation. Roughly 35% more in fact.

Isnt this generations hardware sales a bit academic and uninteresting at this stage of the console's life - regardless of the manufacturer?
Congrats to Borderlands2. Gearbox have a huge hit on their hands which I know will be well supported with DLC.
