What made Quake 3 so great? It has everything a video game needs. Most people might simply think it's just a matter of how good you are at aiming in a video game, and that's true for most FPSes nowadays, but Quake 3 was so much more. Strategising (a concept that FPSes of today seem to be completely unaware of) is so important in this game that it's probably as important, if not more, than the player's skill.
BLG writes, "Alongside the Wolfenstein and DOOM franchises, there are the Quake games. Known for fast-paced and insane multiplayer deathmatch action, there was a time Quake was best known for its single-player design.
That all changed as time passed (i.e., after Quake 3 Arena). Multiplayer deathmatches were never the same.
As other FPS games leaned more into improved narrative and storytelling, id Software delivered a genre-defining multiplayer experience.
Quake 3, and the iterations, will always be one of the best multiplayer series releases.
As far as campaigns, I think 1 and 4 are great, but that 2 was garbage.
Quake Champions was a joke on and didn't capitalize on much of anything that made the series great.
Omar Banat: Despite the passage of time, the consistent player bases for these six ongoing games have stuck around through all of the highs and lows.
Huh, I'm not surprised at a couple of these but I did not think For Honor would have had the staying power that it did. Maybe I should pick it back up....
How about Warhammer Vermintide, seriously those games slap big time, and i've rarely had an issue matchmaking, but no one ever talks about them
I’d add Factions to the list. It has a smaller but super strong fan base. My brothers and I have put more hours into factions than all other multiplayer games combined
Yes, it´s true. Quake Live is no longer a F2P title, as Bethesda is now charging $10 for the game. So no wonder why a lot of Gamers are really angry right now. So this is my (Robin Ek, The Gaming Ground) take on this matter.
Ughh.. they gave any existing users a free copy, it's not exactly hurting any current players.
Infact, this may invite more people to pick up the game during sales and play it.
Taking out the 36$/year sub for a flat 10$ release is a very good move. It'll allow everyone access to the same amount of content and not divide the community.

True, it could also be trolls for all I know. As most of those comments seems to be rather "whiney".
"Exactly, neither do I. It's like people need a reason to be outraged all the time. It's Come to the point when decisions that are made in favor of the consumer are also met with outrage"
*Cough* Killzone 2 *Cough*
Ah, an FPS from the days when men were men, and auto aiming didn't exist.
If this has ALL the features found in Quake 3 Team Arena, then it will be great.
KAMIKAZE BOMB!!!!!
Quake 3 is bloody good fun (especially Deathmatch), the fact I can play it in a browser for free in the future is fantastic. I applaud Id for this brave effort and one step further than the normal source code releases they do (I can't wait to see what people do once Doom3's source code goes free). Epic should see about doing something similar to this with UT before they miss out.
I really can't wait for this, but I wonder if Id could, possibly, possibly get this working on PS3's browser, which would be amazing, other than that, laptop awaaaaaayyyy!!!
enough of twitchy hack/cheat world known as quake live.
PC multiplayer could be fun but hackers ruined it.
is like Quake IMO.
Fast-paced but too much fun!
