I hope they don't wait till E3 to reveal their fall lineup. Next year will be fine for Microsoft, I mean, they do have a new Halo game coming out. I just want a new Killer Instinct.

chasegamez5617d ago

arcade will be $99 by christmas

ericnellie5617d ago

MS never discusses the next year of games during the holiday season. They want buyers to be focused on the "now". They did the same thing last year.
I'm sure they will have tons of new announcements soon;)

The Killer5617d ago (Edited 5617d ago )

"Microsoft and clearly won 2008 by delivering Blockbusters like Gears of War 2 and Fable 2"

only??

ps3 have

1: MGS4
2: LBP
3: R2
4: VK(sega RPG)
5: blue ray player

so why not ps3 won 2008? who sold more in 2008?? i dare any one will say 360 and provide me proof!

i really will feel petty for MS when ps3 goes to 299$ early next year!! who will save them?? what r they going to do to counter KillZone 2??

Graphics Whore5617d ago

I'm not a fanboy by any means but the Xbox 360 did piss poor this year with quality titles, it might have sold more consoles but honestly it was a big wait till November for Gears of War 2.

Irving5617d ago

The linked article is titled as "3 Reasons Why Xbox will loose 2009". I don't know how stuff like this gets approved?

madmonkey05617d ago

this is unjustified
Here are the sales figures of 2008 (according to vgcharts)(which some people think overestimate 360 and underestimate ps3)

Console PS3
Total 8,709,255

Console X360
Total 8,369,774
(Ps sorry if this comes through twice browser crashed first time i tried)

Its all about E3 09 I believe, at least in my books.

I support my 360, but any person can see that the PS3 has some great exclusives in 09, unless your just an ignorant idiot.

Another One5617d ago (Edited 5617d ago )

mean to hit reply.

ceedubya95617d ago

But its obvious that exclusives aren't as important as people seem to think. Its good to have them, but despite the quality of most of Sony's exclusive games, they are hardly making a dent for the hardware/software sales for the PS3.

You have to give Sony credit. Their first party games now are miles ahead of the stuff they had in the early PS1 days. But gamers just don't really seem to care about them, or are just slowly buying them over a long period.

iMarcus5617d ago

True, but the only games I care about are the ones I care about, and quite a few of the Ps3 09 titles look promising to me. Regardless, I still see Alan Wake and Mafia 2 as my most anticipated titles, the latter being multi-plat of course.

panasonic235617d ago

can't wait ms gonna is prevail and do the same thing this year with awesome games.Incoming sonylocust five o clock ms games can't compare with blah blah blah man ms is gonna own 09 just like the did this year.

iMarcus5617d ago

Was it really necessary to post in Gamer and Open Zone?

And dude, I support my 360, but 09 doesn't look that great so far. I hate halo so I don't give a damn about that. The only exclusive I'm looking forward to is Alan Wake.

InMyOpinion5617d ago

I don't like crystal balling like this. They don't know more than the rest of us. Just wait and see what happens.

mesh15617d ago

i love microsfot stratigy on reelaseing games make suprise announcements leading to the game being released in the same year that what i love about ms they annouce games 6 months later the game is relased .

air15617d ago

sure the ps3 has great games we all know that..

the problem is that these great games dont go any farther then the store shelf..

iMarcus5617d ago (Edited 5617d ago )

And?

Sales have nothing to do with how good a game is, It's an irrelevant factor, only relevant when speaking in terms of sequels and whatnot.

I don't care if Max Payne 2 on PC didn't sell that well, the game was still awesome regardless.

ceedubya95617d ago

as you said, if first game doesn't sell too well, then a sequel for the great game won't come out. Its important that Games like LBP, Uncharted, and Resistance (plus others) sell well. Otherwise they will be forgotten, missed opportunities.

Many promising franchises have gone missing due to poor sales. This is why we probably won't see a sequel for Psychonauts. Good games need to sell. And whether its due to advertising or whatever, someone needs to do something to get these things out in the hands and minds of gamers.

iMarcus5617d ago

I understand what you mean, But I'm sick of this new mindset about how if a game doesn't sell well people start calling it a flop.

perhaps a flop regarding its sales, but the games are not.

Ah well, don't let the fanboys get to you.

ceedubya95617d ago

that the gaming public that we can't get through to (the fankids) are long gone, and hard as it is to do, we must try to ignore them. We all have a little bit of fanboy in us, but there are just some that take it to unreasonable extremes.

iMarcus5617d ago (Edited 5617d ago )

Well said.

I come close to replying to some of the fanboys in Open zone, but when I think about it I don't want to put myself through it because each of them is a stubborn bastard who won't listen to reason.

Glad to see there is some intelligent people here, bubbles.

Aclay5617d ago

"sure the ps3 has great games we all know that..

the problem is that these great games dont go any farther then the store shelf.. "

Honestly to me, it really doesn't matter how fast the games sell on the PS3, as long as the PS3 has a continuous stream of quality exclusives, that's all that matters to me.

The PS3 has plenty a couple of system sellers for 2009, and I'm confident that games like Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, and Gran Turismo 5 in Europe and Japan will move some serious PS3 hardware. I'm not sure if God of War 3 will move systems or not, but even if it doesn't God of War 3 is a highly anticipated game and it's a very strong title.

Right now at this point, I really don't forsee that many Xbox 360 system sellers because Microsoft has already released Halo 3 and Gears 1 and 2. Sony on the other hand has just released several of the games in their main catalog. I don't see Halo Wars or Halo 3 Recon really being a system seller because Halo fans already have Xbox 360's, GTA4's release didn't really move significant systems for either the PS3 or 360 in April and I highly doubt that GTA4 DLC will move 360 hardware.

If Mass Effect 2 doesn't come to the PS3, then I think that it will be a huge game for the 360 in 09', and the same thing goes for Splinter Cell Conviction and Alan Wake if they both come out in 2009, but other than that, that's pretty much the strongest potential games that the 360 has for 2009 to me.

CrazzyMan5617d ago (Edited 5617d ago )

Uncharted started with ~200k first week, and NOW in it`s 1st year - over 2 mln. copies sold. =)

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift - started with average sales first week(since many games were released in that period), yet in 5 weeks already passed 1 mln. copies.
http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

Sircolby455617d ago

And Gears passed them both in under a month... =0

CrazzyMan5616d ago (Edited 5616d ago )

1. That fact doesn`t ruin my GAMEPLAY.
2. 1 game cheaper to buy than 2, and motorstorm did 1 mln. also in 1 month, though this game is NOT a TPS. =)
3. PS3 owners had more AA(80-95% on GR) exclusives(Resistance 2, Motorstorm: PR, LBP, Valkyria Chronicles, Naruto:UNS) available to buy this Autumn, then x360 owners.

Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX

This could be fun as they make great tables. Go big or go extinct. Prime your senses for a neural handshake and step into the cockpit of a Jaeger. It is on you to cancel the apocalypse when Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX on May 16.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies17h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken12h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 4h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 4h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt15h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken12h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 9h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 9h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d 8h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies22h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
