Naughty Dog throws down the gauntlet in the Game of the Year race !

While The Last of Us is superbly executed, perhaps the most glaring flaw is the inability to affect the outcome for Joel and Ellie. The lack of agency, at times, left me feeling like an observer as much as a player. PS3 exclusivity will prevent many from enjoying this masterpiece, which is a shame. Nevertheless, The Last of Us is one of the most complete games I’ve ever played. And, despite the linear story, Naughty Dog left avenues available for future DLC and possible sequels. They’ve also partnered with Dark Horse Comics to publish a four-issue comic prequel, so it’s likely we haven’t seen the last of Joel or Ellie.

Over 2 million copies sold in three weeks only! Congrats to Naughty Dog on yet another fantastic game and franchise. Definitely the best developers out there.

That IS an impressive number but it doesn't really reflect the quality of the game. Many films that would be considered masterpieces did badly at the box office. Numbers have never been and will never be an indication of quality.

It does however give the devs an incentive to make a follow up.

I've played all the games you've listed and more but The Last Of Us tops them all! I did think about the games coming out this year before saying "The Last" and the only game I cannot be sure of us Beyond: Two Souls. As for the other ones...
GTAV will be good but nothing we haven't seen before and well..it's GTA!
GT6...seriouy? It's a racer, a VERY good one, I got GT5 and play it with Logitech's Driving Foce GT but a racer just won't do what TLOU does to the player, it won't get the kind of praise TLOU got, a racer won't be referred to as "best game in a decade".no matter how good it is how awesome the crashes look how real the cars look.It will just be an awesome racer.
The rest of the games....no.

And when I say "The First" it is because I see it as the BEST of the best. Not saying the other games are not good cuz Uncharted is awesome and so is GOW3, but this game is something else.

Well, I actually agree with The Last Of Us being one of the best games I've played. In fact I don't see it as much as a game (although the gameplay is solid) but more as an experience.
But I respect your opinion
(Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix is still gonna be great =P)

While I do think it will be a tight competition between GTA V and The Last of Us, is it really fair to be calling that now?

GTA V looks great from what we've seen, and just having the name "GTA" will imediately net it a lot of recognition. However, why anyone should say GTA V is better than The Last of Us, when the former hasn't even released yet is beyond me.

On one hand we've got an amazing game, one of the best I've personally ever played, and on the other we've got an unreleased game which has great trailers. I have no doubt GTA V will be a blast to play - but I do sincerely hope The Last of Us is recognised (as I'm sure it will be) for it's amazing allround experience.

Have you look at GTA V gameplay trailer. It can already tell that GTA V gonna win game of the year. You don't need the game to be released to tell that the game is gonna win game of the year. Not that i hate Last Of Us but it something that we have seen before in other survival horror genre.

There have been plenty of times when the trailer for a game has looked awesome, but then the game itself has been lacking.

I will only judge the game when it comes out, and I play it, not get caught up in the hype-train.

And no, The Last of Us is not super-revolutionary. But I have not felt such a connection to the characters in the game ever before. The level of storytelling and characterisation, the way you feel for Joel and Ellie, to me is unsurpassed.

When coupled with extremely solid and entertaining gameplay, I will be remembering it for a long time to come.

Although that begs the question, what is revolutionary about GTA V?

So you're saying we've seen the Last of Us before in the survival horror genre, but we haven't seen anything like GTA V before? I totally disagree with your logic.

I've never thought about a game as much as I have this one, I'm thinking about strategies at work and trying to think of spots that I haven't totally scoured. This is one of the only games where I want to find EVERYTHING in it, every conversation, every letter, EVERYTHING; and I want to find it all on my own, no guides, no videos. I absolutely love this game, combat included. In my opinion, it's a no-contest, but that's just me though..

I agree, I know I haven't. I've been gaming since pre-nintendo and I've never had a game impact me quite like this. I can't wait to see what they can do in the future, gonna be crazy!!
