Wii U Video Shows Reduced Load Times After April Firmware Update

One of the complaints about the Wii U is that the system’s load times are too long when navigating its main Wii U menu. A firmware update in April will help reduce these.

Nice! Now make some feckin games Nintendo.

Jek_Porkins4062d ago

Did you try Lego City? That game is all kinds of fun.

jacksheen00004062d ago

No,I wasn't a big fan of the Lego games to begin with.

I much rather wait until Nintendo release some of their AAA titles.

zwicks4061d ago

I am not a big fan of the other Lego games - but this is great. Like a good Pixar movie with lots of funny references to the grown up gamer.

1upgamer994061d ago

Look you got disagrees, mostly I bet from people who have never played Lego City. Great game! Tons of fun! I know it is just a Lego game, but it looks darn good too. The map/GPS on the gamepad cleans the TV screen up some too. The humor in the game is great.
Now about those nasty load times, thanks Nintendo. That is my one complaint that needs to be fixed. I really had hoped this would have been fixed a little sooner. Better late than never.

Who needs Nintendo when Monster Hunter can kill hundreds of hours without trying.

VINNIEPAZ4062d ago

"Who needs Nintendo when Monster Hunter can kill hundreds of hours without trying."

THIS One of 2 reasons (also Bayonetta)I got a Wii U. Gonna put a few hundred hours on this bad boy

morpha4062d ago

Hell YES! I just finished low rank in single player... only logged a few hours online but already upto 30hours! (its only been out for 5 days here)

Shnazzyone4062d ago

I will have monster hunter soon. which is disappointing because i just figured out i can use wiimote pointer controls on COD black ops 2. Making it vastly better to me in every conceivable way. Oh well.

3-4-54061d ago

they are....a lot of good games are 30-70% done...just wait a bit.

gamer424062d ago

That's really a huge improvement to what we have now.

guitarded774062d ago

It is a huge improvement indeed, but it makes me question if Nintendo rushed the system to market since these improvements are done simply using software techniques. I'm not complaining, I appreciate the system software updates on all platforms, but maybe Nintendo should have put more time and money into the system software initially to make it faster from the get go. I'm sure they will make it even faster over the course of the console's life. Nintendo should be well versed with the Power PC architecture by now though since they've used it in the GameCube and Wii.

PopRocks3594062d ago

The 360 and PS3 made some significant improvements with their firmware over the years. I think hardware will constantly be updating their OSs so as to make the overall experience better over the course of the generation. This update is an example of that I think.

guitarded774061d ago

@ PopRocks359

I know... I pointed that out in my above comment. My reasonable question is, Why didn't Nintendo have the system software semi-optimized after using the same architecture for 3 generations? I see the fanboy's disagreeing with me, but this is general computer architecture 101. The engineers decided to stay with the Power PC processor, and I assume it's because they know Nintendo has a lot of experience with the architecture and development tools ready to use. I just think Nintendo's OS team wasn't a priority until the Wii U launched, and more players had issue with load times. Hell, I didn't even complain about load times.

deafdani4061d ago

Yup, Nintendo rushed the system to market. They wanted it out by November of last year, to get some sales from the Black Friday and Holidays shopping sprees.

Hence the OS being un-optimized.

I'm a big Nintendo fan, but that much was clear as day to me. More so considering the Wii U had a 1 GB day-one system update.

Lazyeye794062d ago

It may be a big improvement, but it is still incredibly slow.

deafdani4061d ago

Incredibly slow? It takes exactly 8 seconds to fully get out of the game and back to the Wii U's main screen. That's about the same as Xbox 360 and PS3, if not faster (I know, I own both).

jcnba284062d ago

I never realized it took this long but this is a huge improvement.

jaymart2k4062d ago

15 sec improvement from game to dashboard. Wish the video showed the rest of the OS.

morpha4062d ago

this update probably only improves the speed of going back to the OS, its partner update which comes out later in the year speeds up other parts.

Zhipp4062d ago

I'm kinda hoping for the Summer update to untangle your account with your Wii U, if you know what I mean.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno5d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
