February 2013 NPD: Wii U around 64,000 units

NE: "It's uncommon to obtain official data from the NPD these days. The company does, however, tend to leave clues about the performance of hardware."

Heard it was around 80k, but it's still bad, but not as bad as it could be considering there has been ZERO software to support the console.

BitbyDeath4075d ago

On the article -

"Update: Seems the 80,000 figure was inaccurate. Dent tweeted that the the Wii U sold “way under” that number. 64,000 units or so is looking more likely."

ZeekQuattro4075d ago

People pick and choose numbers. Pachter actually had it around 88k and we all know he hates Nintendo for some reason. Which makes it funny that he isn't the one giving a low ball number this time. But yeah the numbers aren't good.

TheLyonKing4074d ago

He doesn't like their buisness model. He likes playing nintendo games but he is a stock market analyst who is hired to look at many diffrent stocks but his most prevelent stock observation is within gaming.

He looks at companies as a business and tells people if they should invest. Theres a good Pach Attack which explains why he thinks Nintendos buisness model is flawed and it makes a lot of sense.

(Don't shoot the messenger though I am just telling you the fact.)

gamefiles4075d ago

Why does this wiiU keep selling ANYTHING if it's a fact that its dry of its true games?
(:
And since when does "most units sold" resolute to being the ones on top? This is video games we are dealing with, not who made the most money lol. I know a BUNCH of artists who make less than justin bieber LMAO.
And those are your facts for today. Thank you.

Dj7FairyTail4074d ago

Wii U sold 3.06m since Dec. 31, 2012
why is everyone overlooking that.

bicfitness4074d ago

And it sold almost nothing since the hardcore Nintendo fans made their purchase. Why is everyone overlooking that? Oh wait, they're not. It won't even crawl to their revised prediction at this rate. Nintendo will miss their targets AGAIN.

I wonder if Monster Hunter will pick things up. Its not exactly a huge seller in the west and it didn't do much in Japan for whatever reason.

I hope Lego City does well, too.

OC_MurphysLaw4075d ago

Increases are always nice but 64k is just not encouraging. Nintendo should be ashamed the way they are managing their console business line. Week in and week out the new release line up for the WiiU AND the Wii is utterly abysmal these days.

khowat4075d ago

does the 3ds count as a console

RememberThe3574075d ago

Yep. They've done some cool stuff with that though, I have no clue what their smoking over there with the WiiU. I know we just legalized weed, but I didn't expect all of Nintendos Redmond offices to be blowin trees.

I mean come on, publishers and developers WANT to love Nintendo but they keep making it so hard.

OC_MurphysLaw4074d ago

I think Nintendo knows handhelds, they have shown that over time. However they clearly got lucky with the Wii early on as it has sunk faster and faster. Now the WiiU is tracking worse than the GameCube. Nintendo should pullout of console hardware, just make handhelds and gaming software for other systems.

Dj7FairyTail4074d ago (Edited 4074d ago )

@Dlacy13g

Wii sales went down starting from 2009 because Nintendo started working on Wii U in 2009.
2010 was the best year for Wii Software and Hardware.

2011 was the year of Wii U unveiling that why we got Zelda and Kirby only for Wii from Nintendo.

2012 was just okay but got great last games for Wii.

LastXeno4075d ago (Edited 4075d ago )

Not looking good, hopefully Nintendo will start rolling out the heavy hitting published titles this fall. (3D Mario, Zelda Wind Waker, and Mario Kart)

LOL_WUT4074d ago (Edited 4074d ago )

A price cut will do wonders thats what Nintendo needs ;)

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.

Wii U games that still haven't been ported to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga19d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

Profchaos19d ago

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas19d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj19d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger19d ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
