Researchers Look At Effects Of Violent Video Game

A study by Ohio State University from December 2012 explored the negative effects of violent video games on behavior was recently covered by the Seattle Times. The study found that aggressive behavior increased after three days of consecutive play on a violent video game.

Here is my conclusion:

Violent people with bad experience in upbringing, will get violent reactions from games.

Normal people with good experience in upbringing, will get no violent reactions or tendencies from games.

I don't need a study or hundreds of shrinks to know this. It's common sense. So instead of trying to blame game industry, blame the social norm for hurting children at a younger age.

Sigh, when will these people learn. There are broken people all over the world, and while the acts they commit are horrendous, you blame the person. One person out of a sample in the hundreds of millions? Sadly this is a fight that we will never win. over 30 years of gaming, probably a million virtual kills, watched violent, gory movies from a young age and never caused an act of violence.

A close relation however, hates videogames, strong work ethic, prone to violence and manic depression.

How is that possible?

I had a look at the actual scientific paper and it looks solid. Unfortunately what the media will ignore is the authors statement that "Although one cannot determine whether violent media cause criminal acts of violence (e.g., rape, assault, murder)... one can determine whether violent media cause an increase in less serious forms of aggressive behavior (e.g., blasting a person with loud, unpleasant noise through headphones) and on aggression-related thoughts and feelings (e.g., hostile expectations)" http://www.sciencedirect.co... I'm almost certain that older studies investigating the effect of violent movies on aggression will find similar increases in less serious forms of aggression. I doubt such results are unique to video games rather they are common to all violent media.
