What matters most is if this is full console TF or GPU only TF.

In the case of the PS4 it's likely full console seeing how they're also "STRONGLY RUMORED" to be using the AMD A10, so the PS4 should be on par with HD 7950M (aka HD 7850), which isn't bad at all.

The Xbox 720 is likely the CPU only, but with that being said the CPU isn't going to do much to improve the overall TF unless it's a complete beastly CPU so at best they would tie with the PS4, but most likely still be behind if the rumors are true (currently those TF put it on par with a HD 7870M aka HD 7770GHz).

Also depends on the amount of RAM, clock speeds, memory, etc...

I kind of hope this is true. Sony tends to have the better exclusives (and more of them), so it would be nice to be able to get those exclusives with the best graphics and also be able to play all of the multiplatform games on the same console.

If Sony makes a beefy enough console I might switch over to the PS4 as my main platform (over PC and Xbox 720).

For now I am taking this all with a grain of salt. We'll simply have to wait for more solid information.

Most games that use a lot of space mostly use it for uncompressed audio and pre-rendered video. That is why most games rarely span more than one DVD, let alone two.

A lot of space just means more costly assets have to be made with very little difference to the user.

With next generation rolling around and hard drives being the standard, you would most likely just install the darn thing and not wear out your optical drive anyhow.

MS started stared this gen by saying the 360 could get by only on DVD, then had to make two major system revisions and temporarily tossed in an add on to compensate. And at the end of six years of thinking like that, of failing to anticipate their own much less consumer needs, they've been edged out of 2nd place worldwide.

I'm not saying that whatever they go with on disc will be a full repeat, but if they go in as narrow mindedly as they have twice before they could end up scrambling to compensate.

Whatever super power each console might have, this generation like many others have proven that power does not guarantee a great console.

I think the most flexible console with the best infrastructure for new features and with quality games will win more so than the number of games or the most hardware power.

The bottom line is, both consoles likely won't differ that much in power, because you can't make the cost difference too big and each dollar can only get you so much hardware so it comes down to "smart design"!

You might be right you might be wrong. One thing I do know is that noone on this forum knows of any facts whatsoever. I'm also a ps3 owner and one thing I can see sony doing is adding gakai to ps+ which means you will probably have to pay to use it. A lot the ps bots can disagree all they want playing online will stay free most other features will fall on the ps+ so the people always on this thread knocking xbl customers will feel like idiots when your paying for ps+ to enjoy certain features. For me xbl/ps+ are essential I don't mind paying at all to enjoy this hobby that has been part of my life since the age of 6. I'm 33 now, and will be gaming til my end of days!!

Then it also states Soc
For PS4 = 1.84 with 2 of them x2 = 3.68
Xbox 720 SoC is at 1.23 x3 = 3.69

Also states that the SoC numbers are old. Could easily be different now.

It also states X720 at 4.2 Tflops now with 3 SoC chips = 1.4 Tflops per SoC.

While Sony has 3.2 Tflops now with 2 SoCs = 1.6 Tflops for Sony SoC.

Simple solution for Sony is to add a third SoC to outmatch Xbox 720 equaling up to 4.8 Tflops. PS4 = breathtaking machine if so.

How the hell will they cool off these machines so I can play a game without hardware issues I wonder though.

hmm... I have been thinking since 2011 that 4 Tflops was a goal of both companies with Sony's 4K talk. These are not likely final until after E3. Production could be delayed as final rush to the top happens. As Sony has stated before when they make something that will wow people then they will release it. If they stick to their word there should be no problem. I personally want Sony to release in Q1-Q2 2014 so they don't mess it up with rushed console red ring. Like apparently both are doing this time around if rumors holds true.

VG247 had pictures of Vita before any one else, so I'm more inclined to believe them.

Sony will likely support BDXL disks which have a capacity of up to 128GB. As far as I know that's the biggest standardized bluray format, though various companies have shown working drives at over 500GB.

BDXL along with the new codec will allow full length movies at 4k resolution on one disk.

They will also need at least a 6x drive for 4k so I expect it will likely be an 8x drive.

AMD 9000, and AMD 10000 spec parts will be used and while both consoles look like 3.2 Tflops on paper. Xbox 720 will be able to perform at 4.2 Tflops with Xbox 720 using Power770 cores.

Only thing creditable is SoC is mentioned. 2-3 of them for PS4/XB3. Which makes sense in a way, but still kinda off if AMD 6670/7670 are utilized. If you take away that 650 Gigaflops and drop in AMD 6760 it equals 3.228 Tflops. Which even matches his own words with both equal to 3.2 Tflops on paper.

XB3 - 3.228 Tflops
SoC 1 - Unknown CPU + AMD 6670 - 768 Gigaflops. BC + Graphics assist on new generation.
SoC 2 = dual design - 1.23 Tflops(AMD 7770?) x 2 = 2.46 Tflops. Main Xbox 720 CPU/GPU Soc it appears with 4 CPU cores in each SoC.

Who cares if it is or isn't more powerful than the new xbox? I just want Sony to make sure when they release Killzone 4 that the multiplayer has more than 8 maps and alot more customization with the weapons, oh and more variety of weapons at launch, oh, and they fix motorstorm. Pacific Rift was the best in the series. Don't get me wrong, there was alot of good things about Motorstorm Apocalypse like driving down falling skyscrapers, helicopters and infrantry fireing rockets and bullets at you, but I miss the openness that Pacific Rift had. You could enjoy the scenery without having to worry about running into every little thing you can think of. I've never wrecked so much in a racing gaming in my life. Plus the story mode was freaking awful!!!! Then there was no new maps like they promised. If I remember correctly there was supposed to be free new maps. I'm very dissapointed on how all these things turned out. They need to get better QA cause they were going in the right direction, I don't know what the hell happened?

Feature wise, I'm only gaming on those machines. I prefer My PC to do everything else (media, stream, internet browsing, etc.)

Sony had a massive advantage in PS1 with discs over cartridges and the PS2 was all brand recognition.

No way can Sony intentionaly release a less powerful console now with Microsoft sneaking up on them.

They don't have the auto-third party support they had in the PS1 and PS2 era with the development issues with the PS3 and it's initial tanking.

Putting out the best product for Sony next-gen is a must and I know the PS3 is more powerful than the Xbox on paper, but the PS4 needs to more powerful with multiplatform titles as well.

Lot's of rumors, anyway even when the specs are official they don't mean much. Just look at how Sony bragged about the PS3 having amazing power and I quote "CPU twice as fast as the CPU in the Xbox 360" and "RSX gives movie quality games". What did this mean in real life performance, nothing, they're about on par performance wise. You can disagree all you want, google it, this is what Sony said at their E3 press conference.

Anyway, I'm still going for the PC/PS4 combination, I can't miss GT6 and a lot of the other Sony exclusives.

IGN reported yesterday an HD 7670M and today this site says an HD 8770. Why is everybody presenting completely different rumors everyday? Doesn't all come from the same source? You know from NeoGaf report with the guy claiming to have an insider in AMD?

If any 7xxxM its likely a 7970m since that was released early to mid last year and is 3 time more powerful

The thing is, no matter which is the most powerful, games development will be led by the weakest. The Ps3 outdoes the 360 in FLOPS, with a rather large margin. But most games look equal on both platforms.

However, with a more traditional and similar chip set in both new consoles, a gap in FLOPS should be more noticable.

You know these rumars are based on some factual evidence..i remember before xbox360/ps3/wii was shown alot of the rumared specs ect were either right or close to it, of course others were no way near. Look at Wii u rumares, the tablet like controller, the 2nd screen...all became true when Nintendo showed the world for the first time.

I hope the console with the most power wins next gen, looking like $ony will reclaim after a generation absent.

Overkill? Not really. You also have to take into account the rumor that the OS will take up about 1.5GB. So in the end, developers will still have about 6GB and some change to work with.

More Computational power > More Ram. I'd take better graphics, better AI and better particle effects than better multitasking any day. After all, I buy consoles to play games and not to jump between apps. If these rumors are true, Sony has the real advantage. Plus, 4 GB is more than enough for next-gen. 8 GB is just useless. I mean who needs that much. PS4 is really looking like the better console imo.

Dude, halo is rubbish.. when i got an Xbox in 2002 i had it bundled with Halo and MGS2 i got bored of halo in like an hour or 2 and never played it again, MGS2 however was great. I ended up chipping it and DL'ing games like Panzer dragoon Orta and Simpsons hit and run and burning them to DVD, good times.

At that time i had like 256k broadband and also had Soldier of Fortune 2 on PC which blew Halo away, purely for the fun factor that it was an awesome online game.

I also tried Halo 3 and found it extremely boring.. if you want to play REAL FPS games get a PC and play Valve games.

Well for me this could be good news, i like MS but all the Xbox has to offer are mainly FPS games which are much better on PC..

and they are wasting devs like Rare by not letting them make great games like Conker or anything.

So i may just yet choose PS4 instead, at least the online is free like it should be. MS may have IllumiRoom or whatever but it doesn't look half as good as the Oculus Rift coming to PC which promises proper full VR experience with head tracking.

The display output limits the utility of the hardware. If the next-gen can promise 1080p at 60 fps, I am in.

I run big picture at home, with a PC, and HDMI cable, and a wireless receiver for my 360 controller. My card is a GTX 570. It runs it all at 1080p at ultra settings. It's all my big tv can do !
