Well, I'm a "Playstation fanboy" and I really couldn't care less about the Kinect spying on people, because I don't ever plan on getting one anyway.

Good to see Naughty Dog taking the high road on this, unlike some other developers' (would-be) reactions to some surprisingly mediocre review scores. It just goes to show you how confident they are in the quality of the game, to not let one semi-negative review affect them.

I think the Kinect functionality really won them over. Big Kinect fans over there, I would surmise.

@Gaming101

I'd actually be okay with it if they are simply trolling for hits by posting a contrarian review, and that were the extent of it.

The problem is, it seems a little deeper and more nefarious than just attention-grabbing. Take, for example, the fact that Microsoft paid these guys $750k a little while back. Also, notice how there are Internet Explorer advertisements plastered all over the website.

And, as I mentioned before, I vis...

I'm pretty sure Polygon is a shill site for M$. I recall visiting Polygon on the day of the disastrous Xbox One reveal, and it was nothing but positive articles about the Xbox One.

No, not even a single article questioning the used-game ban and always-online DRM problems with the Xbox One.

Interesting tidbit on porting Warframe to the PS4:

“...and [PlayStation 4], in my opinion, is incredible to develop for. It is awesome, and I don’t want to speak disparagingly about any existing or prior platforms, but we showed Warframe for the first time to our entire studio, and everyone had their jaws on the floor, how 1080p, silky smooth and beautiful it was. So, I’m really, really enjoying working on the machine.”

Good to see that developers are seeming...

Personally, as a "PS3 fanboy" I do agree that Microsoft should've at least won the controller category. Xbox controllers traditionally have great ergonomics, and the one advantage I always felt the Playstation controllers had--convex analog thumbsticks--was changed in favor of concave sticks for the PS4. I personally am not happy at all about Sony switching to concave thumbsticks, because I always felt the rounded-top PS3 thumbsticks offered superior control and precision over t...

@Jockamo:

I did read it. Basically, to sum up the article for you since you don't seem to quite grasp its basic conclusions, what Digital Foundry is saying is that one "possible" candidate for cloud-computing assistance is that you can download updated map data from the internet, such as pre-baked lightmaps (aka, static or "fake" lighting) that corresponds to a different time of day--for example, the sun shines brighter and casts light at a different a...

The general concept has been used way before then.

Back when I played Quake in 1997, I would download updated map data, modified/enhanced maps, mods, and other "non-realtime" assets on-the-fly, from remote servers (a.k.a., "the cloud"). Since we, as well as Microsoft, are using such a loose and vague definition of "cloud computing," I'd say the way games like Quake or Counter-Strike send you updated data from the servers would count as a form...

The current-gen PS3 and 360 can offload physics and AI calculations to cloud servers. There is absolutely nothing unique to the Xbox One hardware--no built-in chip or component--that enables it to handle these operations anymore efficiently than any PC or game console that is already currently available. Cloud computation is not a hardware issue, it's an internet latency and bandwidth issue.

The fact that even Avalanche says "Sony may implement something similar for ...

"Look at the pictures. The X1 IS NOT 3 inches longer than the Xbox 360 slim"

WRONG. Look at the video, it's the same width as a Macbook Air, which is 13" wide.

If these are indeed native 1080p Second Son screenshots, then the AA quality is really, really nice. It doesn't have that characteristic full-screen blur of the old FXAA method, so maybe this is SMAA? I'd love to see all PS4 games use some form of SMAA (even SMAAx2 looks great) as a baseline.

And again, no fix for the lag compensation issues. Thanks for completely ignoring the problem, Treyarch.

The fact that this "Xbox One Highlights" Youtube video:

has over 2.5 million views, and 99% likes, should tell you that even the mainstream population and (semi)casual gamers have some inkling as to just how shitty the Xbox One reveal event was.

Wii U was/is supposed to be the universally beloved machine for casuals, the mainstream media, and the whole family. Didn't exactly help the sales too much, did it?

All these tepid expressions of enthusiasm by the "mainstream media" don't matter a whole lot if the intent to ultimately purchase the system by said group isn't there.

But who knows. Maybe the general public really is as dumb, gullible, and ill-informed as we think they are, ...

Like it or not, neither Xbox One nor PS4 will be backwards compatible. It's a bummer, but it's almost understandable considering how different the x86 architecture is compared to the PowerPC architecture of the new consoles.

My digital downloads on PS3 will be the biggest thing I miss, because I have no way to recoup some of my losses by trading them in or re-selling them. Hopefully Sony introduces a cloud service eventually that will allow me to play all my PSN games...
