IS it petty to spend $60 on a game and then not be able to play the single player mode because the servers are down? I'm not sure that's the definition of pettiness.

Metacritic user scores are rarely very far off of general opinion in the long-term, because as it turns out buffoonish sycophants are generally there to cancel out buffoonish haters, in approximate proportion to how much most people feel good or bad about the game.

In this case, and in ma...

Maybe, if they didn't opt for always-online DRM, then we wouldn't have to worry about stress on the EA servers in a single-player game.

Just sayin.

The first news out of Respawn since its inception is that its founder is leaving. That seems like kinda a bad omen to me.

Um. What?

I'm sorry, that's not super verbose. I'll try again.

Dear Author,

What the fuck is wrong with you, talking about "MineCraft 2." It is not a game concept that is really able to support a sequel. In summary, you're a moron.

Thank you for your time,
Reader

@DarkHawkZX So we're clear, he was saying that the CPUs that AMD are now selling as "8-core" are in fact virtual cores. Not anything about the PS4 really, just a criticism of the manufacturer of one part.

Other shows are a bit fairer. I'm told the BAFTAs tend to actually give most films a pretty fair shake.

Oscars, though, never nominate anything that wasn't already nominated at the Golden Globes--ironically, an award show that nobody cares about.

... You just went full retard.

No. A thousand times no. Mojang owns Minecraft. You really think that Microsoft would make a Java-based game after they spent all their time and money trying to destroy Sun? You think they'd have a game fully compatible with Mac and Linux? Not a chance in hell. If not C++, then they'd use one of the many proprietary .NET languages they're so proud of, which are just like Java in pretty much every way, except for being natively suppor...

I've never had any problem getting more than 10 to work.

The big problem with F2P is the "Pay to Win" problem; when games allow for accessing the entire game without paying, then I don't mind them.

@BattleAxe : And the 360, though.

Seriously, go onto any torrent search engine, search for any multiplat, and you'll find that it's pirated on 360 too. In fact, you'll find that 360 games are generally pirated before PC games--most 360 pirates get games 1-2 days before the street date, whereas PC pirates tend to get them 1-2 days after. Sometimes, when the DRM is really good, 1-2 weeks after, but that's rare.

I disagree somewhat.

Most modern difficulty settings are naive, and that is part of what creates frustration.

In learning any new skill, most people don't just continue to do one thing as they get better. Guitarists don't get better at strumming chords, they learn to pick chords, or they go the rock route and learn more advanced fingering techniques like hammer-ons and such, or they learn to use a slide. Most games don't take this into account. <...

Note: There is no statistical correlation between guns per capita and murders per capita. Though there is a strong correlation between guns per capita and gun murders per murder (that is to say, when guns are readily available, pretty much nobody kills with some other implement)

On the other hand, there is a strong correlation between people living in poverty per capita and murders per capita. So...

Agreed. In addition to my above comment, I'm really not sure why people are surprised by any of this. DNF was the same story. If people want to get mad cause they got burned, whatever, but don't act like you couldn't have seen it coming. This is not the first time Gearbox has done this, and it's not the first time that Randy Pitchford has acted like this.

Feel how you're gonna feel about it, but don't play dumb, John Q Public.

This.

You guys can feel free to disagree, whatever. But video packages and demos are marketing tools.

If you still trust marketing departments (that is to say, the people who create and use marketing tools) then you deserve what you get. They're cheats and liars and it's their job to be cheats and liars. I don't trust or like about half the commentors on N4G to use their heads (not unlike YouTube here, sometimes), but at least some of you should k...

WarZ also stole a number of art assets from other games.

Also, Randy Pitchford may or may not be a resident of "Doucheville"--but he's not someone different than he was before now, considering he did the same thing with DNF, and he wasn't someone different before the DNF debacle either.

He's just a man, don't expect a miracle. I don't dislike him, from what I've seen--but I have also tried to keep in mind that he can act like...

It's pretty clear that Gearbox were just the best-known of nearly a half-dozen studios that worked on this piece of crap. Why should Randy Pitchford waste his time on listening to people? It's quickly becoming clear that he and his people probably knew what was happening--the odds that you (or some theoretical Messiah of disenfranchised gamers) will tell him something he didn't already know.

Is he a good guy? I don't know. But his twitter is (currently) somewh...

Actually this is exactly what the guy who got canned from Gearbox when DNF came out said.

There were problems with the game, he said, but the reaction was way, way, way worse than the game deserved--the video game journalism community was clearly trying to send a message with those DNF reviews, and to an extent I'm seeing that here, as well.

(Although this game seems to be a complete mess--I am loving the videos of bugs from this game--where Duke Nukem Fo...

Obvious troll is obvious.

Computers were designed around the keyboard. Given that no longer are typewriters to be found, you should be looking at your keyboard and thinking 'computer,' not 'typing.' That's naive. I do much less typing than I do entering shortcuts, using media keys, pressing space to play/pause, navigating web pages...

My approximate experience with Skyrim, in miniature:

Off chasing a deer for 2-3 miles; decide to do a quest.

Talk to quest giver. "Go to a dungeon," he says. Get there.

It's a draugr dungeon again.

Nope, not generic. All the draugr dungeons totally aren't the same. >_>

Nah. I prefer Squall is Dead to the other alternative, which is that Rinoa is a complete mental case.

Think about that transition from Disk 1 to Disk 2.

End of Disk 1, she's scared that Seifer has thrown his lot in with a bad crowd, and she's conflicted because she's been in love with him the entire game up to this point, though she never uses the 'l' word. And now he's been brainwashed into standing between her and her dream, a dream ...
