Any exec at Phil's level knows they need to paint a good financial picture to stay in their seat. I think when GamePass leveled off in revenue growth is when he started shifting strategies. I wouldn't think Satya would have a lot of passion around Xbox direction, other than insisting it make a reasonable profit.
It must be hard to do. I would think scaling up the number of studios they own is only going to make this worse.
Agreed w/ Sean. Keep expectations low.
So... Why bother?
Asus and others already created handhelds with Windows running on it.
Are they selling like hotcakes?
No.
Every see anyone out and about playing on their windows handheld?
Probably not.
What's so special about a Windows handheld made by Microsoft?
About as likely as a negative inflation rate.
With the way our governments are spending, not gonna happen
Hinting Steam and Epic stores will be on it
Talking about "forward compatibility"
Saying it's gonna be the biggest leap ever implying it's gonna be priced higher than a typical console
Backing away from exclusives
Skipping the Pro mid -gen update
I might be missing a few other signs
I'm with you, but btw there's no way MS is maximising profit they way. They could have gotten us to buy the damn game instead of paying $12 to rent it for a month
I don't believe this at all.
They've been acting like they're exiting the traditional console business.
I'm still sticking with the Xbox branded PC approach.
@porkchop, yeah good point
Didn't he get the job in the midst of the live service strategy? He may still suck, but you'd think it would take about 4 years to see the fruits of new leadership based on how long game development takes...
They need someone at the top that actually has a fun personality and enjoys gaming. Is that possible? I don't know much about Herman Hulst...
Wish Yoshida was back... He seemed kinda perfect for the job.
I still don't get why you would say "digital only" - it supports a disk drive sold as an accessory.
It's like saying rifles are "iron-sights only". It makes no sense to me.
Oh, lol. Got it.
I'd argue that MS at least kept PS on their toes. I'm thinking we'll miss that
You're saying there wasn't a console war? I'm confused
So allow me to summarize the arguments against the Pro:
1. The Pro is too expensive
2. I can build a PC that beats the pro for just TWICE AS MUCH
3. I've gotta pay $80 for an optical drive
Gotta laugh at all of this FUD - you'd think there wasn't a physical option. Physical might go away someday, but lay your axes down cause it's not today
Yeah but they still sell a drive you can attach.... So...
There you go with that logic again 😊
@michiel, exactly! And all of a sudden all these messages about how PCs are better.
As if PCs were suddenly invented...
Dead Space is a quality add. Gonna play that one
