He also says there are diminishing returns on power now - pretty much rules out pushing more power unless there's something transformational going on. That rules out a XSX Pro and, if you think about it, rules out a new generation coming out in the next few years as well. In a prior interview he made it clear they're not going to release a $1000 console, so Sarah Bond's amazing leap in hardware can't be an uber console.
So what's left? Definitely a streaming stic...
You don't have to get upset, it's just my opinion. I could be wrong, we'll see
IGN: In an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer said the “expectation is that we would do something” in the handheld game devices category, but such a device is a few years out.
I can see why you'd call that confirmation, but I would say that's anything but
Emphasis on the ;)
...OR... MS wants you to keep that brand loyalty alive even after you realize there won't be an Xbox console anymore...
I'm having a hard time viewing this as anything but trying to step the Xbox brand away from the console.
There is something wrong with the "nothing is off the table" approach. Try saying that to your wife next time you're headed out to a pub. Xbox as a brand has a relationship and informal contract with their console owners.
Stay loyal to Xbox and you get these exclusive benefits. Saying nothing is off the table is in essence saying that "contract" is no longer important
Agreed, and knowing GamePass won't ever be on PS/Switch means they have to keep providing a place for people to play it until their cloud dream comes true (it won't).
That's gotta be a low cost device for them to be successful imo
Handheld solves nothing. It would probably be even more niche than the XSS, making it even less desirable for publishers to support. I don't know... Maybe if that's their only model it might make sense, but splitting their shrinking install base between two even more divergent sets of specs seems unreasonable
Indiana Jones is currently their highest profile game and it's coming over without even a year delay. None of us know for sure but the trend is obvious
How many of those do you expect will be console exclusives?
None of us have the data to tell whether this was a successful strategy or not. It will take months before even MS knows, and they certainly won't tell us.
That's huge
Corporate culture (good or bad) will propagate to the teams over the years, it's as inevitable as gravity. It's just the way organizations work. That's why it's so important to have people at the top that represent the culture you want to have throughout the org. Just look at how Xbox started in the OG days and where it is now after decades with MS.
Yeah good game. I already played it on PS Extra when it was on there
Even if there are people here asking for a game like Concord, do you think a Sony exec is reading that comment and making decisions based on it? I certainly hope not lol
Before investing millions, extensive market research is done to understand who your potential customers are and how much they'll spend on your game. It's all on Sony.
I'm sure they're aware of the concentration of online gaming and the risks of trying to break into that space with a new game....
Not a first time caller, but thanks 😊
I agree. I think the live service stuff is too hard to break into because it's hard to predict the network effects that make a game popular.
Just provide the high quality SP exclusives that differentiate PlayStation and the customers will keep flocking to you. It's been winning, why stop now
I'm ready for this as well on PC GamePass, which I just joined because of COD...
I'll say this though... No way this lasts at $12/month. In my one year I'll get COD, Jones, Avowed, Doom, along with the back catalog stuff I haven't played yet?
I'm loving it but it ain't gonna last
I think both of you guys are right. If MS wants to keep GamePass around, they need a console. But they don't feel they need a "new" console anytime soon. Production costs for existing hardware will go down, and they can continue to ride that train for the next 5 years with slim versions, while releasing a stick or something to get more people to stream. I imagine most of the cost associated with the XSS/XSX is behind them so they're just riding it out.
