@rezke Sony's business model isn't to sell the games, it's to be the platform. They'd happily take 30% of everything all day. The exclusives (where they get 100%) are just there to keep people from jumping ship
I'm not as sure about that. Who knows what the threshold is for justifying another gen of consoles. All signs point to them doing something with Windows and PCs to make them more console-like and somehow work in backwards compatibility. Phil stated he doesn't see power as being as important and sees growth in PC, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just leave the XSX out there for a while... Maybe iterate on it a bit and release a streaming device for cloud only
Reading his quote sounds like word salad. I'm not sure he said anything really.
In fairness, Sony's massive live-service f-up over the last year or two has made this a lot more obvious.
The review claimed the game was relatively stable and bug free
If we're going to pull Sony in and compare, all I'll say is this - Playstation was SO far ahead due to consistently being better for so long, that this recent colossal screw up isn't enough to change things. PS trips and looks back to see Xbox has already walked off the field and left their gear.
Regarding Xbox having many successful studios - remember before they went on the shopping spree they had run nearly all their studios into the ground. Of course when y...
good strategy? They have painted both consoles and gamepass together into a corner and don't know the first thing about how to make studios successful. Make no mistake their leadership are sh$*#ing bricks right now.
Spoiler alert
Nvidia would probably put out some cool hardware, but would be starting from scratch as a platform.
Nvidia branded Steam Box with SteamOS FTW
@Brazz - you're making the mistake of thinking Steam Deck is the platform. It's not - it's Steam. And Steam has a huge install base. Valve is willing to give SteamOS away for free and let other people sell the hardware because it's the Steam store that they want you have front and center of your experience right now. Shifting people ever so slowly away from a completely open Windows based environment (where Windows is the biggest drawback) to a more purpose built Steam-centric...
Steam transitioning into the console space is so unique in so many ways. For this first phase, i think they may be competing more with Windows than they are PlayStation, but ultimately they'll be fighting for the same customers. Unless they can come up with some unique and persistent way to differentiate, they'll eventually want exclusives to chip into PS' user base i think.
There are trackpads for mouse input so you use them to enter text on a virtual keyboard or a a mouse in a pinch. It's pretty good considering it's still a "PC"
They now have that magic Proton. I hope they succeed.
Right. Xbox lost the console war, and has fallen back only to find that they need to now defend Windows.
They kinda already did that with SteamOS on the Steam Deck
Regarding the battle vs. war, MS' greatest strength was after releasing MS/DOS and becoming the dominant OS on PC, using that dominance to push Windows, Office, and IE through monopolistic behaviors. Those days are gone, and their products are dying across the board in the consumer space. It's not like MS has a history of winning wars - they've been losing then fairly regularly
What do you mean? PlayStation is an Xbox 😉
yeah compared to all the other things that have happened in the console war, that would be the one defining moment that everyone would seize on - Halo on PlayStation. That would feel like the point of no return.
Releasing older games on PC is an adjustment.
Trying their hand on live service vs. single player is an adjustment.
Those adjustments come and go and hopefully Sony learns from them.
However I think the core BUSINESS MODEL - the way in which Sony makes money - is still generally the same.
Sell customers a console as a platform, get them to buy all their games from your store, collect a portion of that revenue. Sell hardware and accessories to comp...
Yeah you know... Sony is still in the business of selling consoles...
