Zynga is the blight of the blight of browser games. Spam, misleading marketing, malware and spyware... there's really no end to it.

Doesn't show much violence?

Let's theorize that violence in games is a bad thing for a second (I don't, but it's for your own use):

One of Zynga's game is named "Mafia Wars"
Check the video. I got you a funny one, since I'm nice :D

Again, you're mixing two completely different realities. Iphone games have a (weak and narrow) bridge to core gaming for the simple fact that when you browse the app store you WILL find core games. You will actually find some on the very top of the charts, and you will be tempted to try them.

The whole marketing of facebook based games is aimed in keeping users well enclosed into their little loop, never looking outside. They actually have timed tasks made especially to make sure...

And once the "games" are into the home, what happens? Nintendo will heavily market some other casual game (much more than any core game they will produce), and that marketing will keep the casuals into the casual loop.

The ones that actually make the jump are very few, because there's absolutely nothing to educate or prompt them to make the move towards something more complex. The marketing they are exposed to actually pushes them on the opposite direction.

This legend of casual games "Bridging" many new gamers into core gaming is, unfortunately, just an unproven legend.

Ultra casual facebook games feed only themselves at the expense of other forms of entertainment.

If casual games really helped bringing "new blood" into gaming, core games would sell well on the Wii. They don't. Ask yourself why?

And extra basic browser games on social networks like facebook are even more disjointed fro...

Well, they're publishing The Last Story. That's a good step in the right direction already. :D

I don't envy you, you guys have been spammed like hell. Luckily the ordeal is over.

So the Wii has 2-3 decent-to-good games coming out and it suddenly becomes "the year of the wii"?

Please... Jim sterling epic fail. As usual.

It's definitely, at least in my opinion, one of the best franchises the Japanese market has to offer at the moment.

if only Sega west decided to support it better...

Suda 51 appears too. The three of them have been eachoing each other a lot on twitter lately. And Mikami said that he's going to work on Tango with his "best friends".

Personally, I prefer it to GTA. The story is more engrossing, and expecially the characters (even the villains) are much better flashed out and likeable. Kazuma Kiryu is much easier to relate to than Nico Bellic.
Though, the game is similar to GTA in themes and in the fact you can roam the city freely, but it's a whole different beast gameplay-wise :D
better or worse, depends on your tastes.

Yep, I know it's pretty heavy loading, but that's the only way to have the 3D view that lets you cam around the place.
In the end I weighed the two options and decided for this one. Takes a while to load, but it's more fun to explore :D

If you're using your PS3 as a supercomputer for research, chances are that you didn't update your firmware even once since when you got it.

You seem to be a little confused on the meaning of the word "generic". a character that can fit every role and every appearence is the very defitition of "generic".

Luckily there are still some developer that refuse to give in to the demands of the "OMG if my character is not like me i can't relate!" goons and continue taking the responsibility of actually designing their characters instead of letting them be generic and dull a-la commander shepard. ...

Just LOL at saying that MGS copied splinter cell because of something as generic as the movable third person camera.

It's much more likely that Kojima had no idea that something as dull as splinter cell even existed at that time.

I find it extremely silly that some people DEMAND developers to go out of their way to make their protagonists as generic as possible. Male, Female, Black, White, Straight, Gay...

The more options you include, the more generic and shallow the character will be, and guess what, some developers like their characters to have a bit of depth.

@FoxgodXbot Sorry to burst a bubble, but you must have some reading problems. Splinter Cell Conviction has plenty less detail than MGS4, you need thicker glasses if you think the contrary.

Splinter Cell conviction, It only does 576p. Lol.

Valkyria Chronicles
Lost Odissey
Star Ocean
Tales of Vesperia
White Knight Chronicles
Yakuza 3 and 4

while the games you listed are great, There's plenty quality in this generation's JRPGs, whether the biased anti-Japanese western press admits it or not.
And in storytelling JRPGs always have a lot to teach to western games, too bad that most western developers never learn.
