Basically: Knack is trash because the internet says it's trash. But most people have a hard time explaining what made the game so bad...Too me, thats just people letting an internet trend make up their mind for them.

Its unfortunate that Knack became a punching bag on the internet. And then people just started piling on and most people didn't know why...they just jumped on because everyone else was doing it. Of the people I know who actually played Knack, it was hard for them to find more negatives than positives in the game

I played it with my ex girlfriend at the time and we had a lot of fun with it. It was a throwback to the late 90's/early 2000's.

Definitely didn't deserve the flak it got from what they call "professional critics".

I know if I was like 6 or 7 years old when Knack came out I would've loved it like I loved Sonic and Crash back in the day.

I give it credit for being obscure in an age of overly serious games and bringing back the charm that made games targeted at a younger demographic so fun.

The game was a below average repetitive Hack & Slash game. It didn't even run very well on the PS4. There were times when the FPS would drop down to 14fps from 30fps. I really couldn't understand that since it was created by Mark Cerny who helped to create the PS4. Game should have been 60fps easily on the PS4.

I guess they are trying to redeem themselves with a sequel. I wish them luck.

I liked it alright. Wasn't perfect, nor anything to really write home about, but was fun enough, and had good characters for the kind of game it was...although not as fleshed out as games like R&C.

I don't know why some people proclaim to hate it. There's nothing to really hate about it. Was fun, had some interesting concepts, and had a pretty steady level or progression. About the only flaw was it could be repetitive at times, and the difficulty could occasionally spike into ridiculous levels.

There was not times that knack dropped to 14 fps. It was one specific time during a boss fight for a split second. Which i believe was later patched.

But the first slew of games on all new consoles tend to struggle a bit due to rushing out the door.

Beat all time attacks yesterday. Need diamond Knack next. Only 4 diamonds so far.

However, I'm enjoying playing through the multiple runs (on difficult).

Sure, the game has some issues, but it's fundamentally solid with some quite challenging gameplay.

Having read through most of the comments here saying how much they liked Knack and the excitement for a sequel, makes me keen to actually try this game out. I was kind of guilty of falling for the Internet reviewer hate and thus avoiding it based on the score. I mean I played the Order and I thought it was a kinda cool game!
TBH I have been hoping it comes on ps plus so I can try it but the game is basically discounted everywhere by now, so I think I'll just buy it anyway without feeling too perturbed that if it subsequently does make it on ps plus!

First one wasn't a bad game. Was rather standard platform fare, but worked for what it was. My expectations for it was it being a launch game in the platforming genre, so didn't expect anything truly innovative or mind blowing. It's what I'd consider a mid-tier game in game play and scope, and it lived up to that expectation for me, because I wasn't expecting the next Rayman or Ratchet & Clank to redefine the genre.

It sold that much because it looked good and was one of the only PS4 exclusives out at that time. it has a 6.5 on metacritic, 5.9 by ign, and a 4 by gamespot its not a minority its generally received as a mediocre game.

You're the reason why games like this never have the chance. This was a good game, the ONLY game I played this gen where I personally didn't encounter a glitch. And I played through it about 10 times to obtain the platinum.

The game is more like an 8/10, people expected Knack to be some GOW or something, when in fact time and time again Mark Cerny stressed that it's a childs game for children. Yet adults want to buy it expecting something else, This is why the game was received bad by those outlets. Not because the game was bad but because those reviewers had warped expectations.

If I listened to reviews as you do and base my opinion off of them I would only own niche games.. COD gets great reviews but is it a great game? lOl you're ridiculous and people that think like you are just as bad.

I liked it. It was a fun beat-em-up. It reminded me a lot of some of the games from PS2 era, and if you played it on the hardest difficulty, it was pretty challenging. My only gripe with the game was that they did the collectible wrong being randomly generated with trophies associated with them. Trophies should never be based on luck. It added a lot of unnecessary time, which made it a pain in the rear end to get the platinum.

With that said, I'm going to be looking forward to this sequel.

I think you just hit one of my main gripes with this game. I enjoyed this game a lot more than I thought I would after reading the reviews. I really liked it but the random collectibles being tied to trophies was a problem that I hope they fix in the second one. I spent more hours on this game trying to get that platinum than I have with some rpg's. All in all I found it to be a lot of fun and knack 2 is a day one buy for me.

Saying something sucks without saying why it sucks doesn't really help people understand why it sucked. It wouldn't be any different with me saying it's a great game, and expecting people to just accept it with no more reasons why.

There are plenty of reasons people are listing for why the game is good. Decent game play, good characters, stuff to do, etc. I see more faults listed for the game from those who liked it than I am from those who say it was a bad game....seems rather odd doesn't it?

If you want your opinion to matter, and actually discuss the topic, then give people something to discuss, because no one actually cares about your opinion. Sure, lots of people hate on games for no reason. Doesn't mean that when it happen that others don't dismiss those people or question their reasons why. However here, someone is asking why people feel it sucked, and no one is actually offering up a reason why, only hiding behind their opinion as if their opinion is important.

No one has to prove anything to me, or anyone else. But if you're going to discuss a game, then discuss it. It shouldn't take too long to write up a reason why you dislike a game, and if you're already taking the time to say it sucks, why not qualify the reasons why? Loads of games are on PC nowadays, pretty sure SFV is and plenty of other games. If a game is console exclusive its still exclusive to a certain point. Having a bigger install base is actually a good thing, more money equals more chance of sequels and better games down the line.

I'm reminded of Jumping Flash on the PS1. It was a launch game also. Ok game, had some flaws, nothing amazing, but fun enough. Jumping Flash 2 comes along, and it's a great game. Tight controls, awesome levels, and just a fun time all around.

Knack could go the same way, and it had less flaws than Jumping Flash did.

Only design choice I'd like to see refined is the extra abilities Knack gets near the end of levels. Sometimes they weren't all that great. Random collectibles needs to go as well....and some more game play mechanics to make game play more varied throughout.

Sony is great at supporting various games and just like the poster above who's little brother enjoyed it, that's what knack is for. If you're older and still enjoy the game, well that's a bonus in my book.

I'm sure with the success of Until Dawn we will get a sequel to that as well and a new game from the developer.

Even though some of us are not a fan of certain games, it's good to see Sony recognize that a game doesn't have to be universally loved to be given a sequel. For the Knack fans out there today, this is their year of dreams moment!

Generic is one thing. But I played knack and I did not think it was at all generically designed.
Certain places you had to be small others you had to be big. You had to be composed of certain substance's to be effective.

Actually, the enemies changed a lot in Knack--every stage something knew was introduced and there were new attacks to watch out for. Visually they weren't as diverse maybe but combat wise it changed things up well and, personally, I never had complaints about combat as it was more interesting than most 3d action platformers in a while.

Platforming though could use the most love as the enemies had you moving and thinking more than the platforming aspects of the game. Most of the platforming was built around basic jump timers.

I still enjoyed the game though and 2 could fix a lot of this is true. If I could get a Kameo 2 for the One too then I'd be in sequel bliss for underrated platformers.

I like what Sony is doing. They're giving new IP of this generation a second chance, so I'm hoping that they would consider a sequel to The Order 1886. Just one more to see if this game has the potential to be a franchise.

Well for Sony could be 1 to 2 million. You need to factor that Infamous series stated around that range....yet its an entire series, it wasn't doing like Uncharted numbers or anything, but enough for Sony to clearly keep making them.

Don't get so caught up on what folks see as "flops" or not as that is actually more so known by the publisher then fans.

If they got a profit, they can afford to keep making them if it was high enough and demand still exist. Consider both MS and Sony might spend MORE money in marketing, then they might on development for a game, so its nothing for them to keep making a series if it has a steady install base.

The potential for it to be a series is high again if you factor many Sony series have not gone on to do like 5 million or so sales per title, yet still exist as series.

DMC actually sold around that 2 mill mark as a series.

Well when I say "chance" I was under the impression that the game didn't do so well in terms of critics, but sold fairly well, especially in Japan from last I heard. But this is there chance of making a sequel that is better then the predecessor. Personally I want The Order 1886 to have a sequel, just one game to prove that Ready at Dawn heard the community and this is what they fixed to improve the game. If the game does well then it's up to Sony to continue The Order franchise, if not, didn't say they tried.

I'm with you. I loved Knack and it was my favorite of the launch games. I was really hoping they'd make a second one because there were a number of areas that could be improved (like maybe not having the game determine when you'd shrink down in size). There were a lot of good ideas there and Knack II is set to kill it.

YES!!! I loved Knack and this has made my day. PS4 is all about variety and this game was fun for me like a throwback to other platformers from PS2 era. The first nex gen game I beat also. Bring back Victor as a Dr Doom like character using his tech to keep him alive as he now has the biggest vendetta against Knack n Company.

I can see many may feel that way, the game may not be for everyone, but I do not think as a platformer it wad as you said "extremely basic"

. The enemy units reacted differently to what substance you were made of at the time, so if your combustible they tended to shoot you straight off @ ranges trying to tear the chunks off of you, that made your composition dangerous in close hand to hand of those substance properties.

Playing in Hard was if you were ice they would load down with heavy units to slow you down to keep you from freezing back ranked units. In the wave.

They reacted to the substances that you could change into.

Between Ratchet & Yooka Laylee I think this year kick starts the return of 3d platformers. If Crash is announced this year along w/ Knack 2 that could essentially seal the deal.

I love me some 3d platformers (definitely dug the side scrolling 2d ones as well but they've already had their revival & for some reason it has devolved into the procedurally generated roguelike arena) but in terms of evolution I'd love to see them tack on some of the cinematic action aspects of games like Uncharted. Love to see some huge set pieces plugged into 3d platformers, it would allow for the same feel while evolving the genre somewhat to give us new gameplay hooks. Just as long as they don't turn them into open world rpg's or online only fps games like everything else these days...

I think the original game got a lot of unwarranted flack simply because people had high expectations of it. I think it was expected to be a title that really showcased what the PS4 could do, and act as a must have exclusive for the system. Realistically, Knack was never meant to be that. It was just meant to be a charming, family friendly puzzle platformer that's simultaneously a tribute to Pixar and Dreamworks flicks, and the platforming titles of old. It was never meant to be Shakespeare, or mind-blowing in the gameplay department. However, it also wouldn't have gotten as much attention as it did if it didn't release when it did, so maybe the retardation of the Internet actually worked in its favour. I for one enjoyed it, and it's exactly what I was expecting it to be.

I'm not sure if I'd call Knack substantial enough to warrant a sequel, but it's charming in its own right, and I wouldn't say no to a sequel. It definitely won't be a day 1 purchase for me, but I can think of much worse titles that were more deserving of the harsh review scores the original game received, so I may check out Knack II at some point if it's released, likely when I can get it for a reasonable price.

The cool thing to say is Knack was an underrated game. I played the game and it was extremely boring, redundant and the controls were terrible. For a small child the game would be a nice indie gem, unfortunately it was sold as an AAA title.

When I stared playing Knack I was hoping for a co op platformer. I got a poorly done brawler with a second player who was basically god mode.

I was really disappointed because it was nothing like I hoped it would be. Brawling is boring as ever in knack as you only get so many chances to use power ups and the puzzles are only so so. Felt more like a top or three fourths brawler in a bad way.

I doubt many people would be running out to pick up a sequel unless they really fix everything that made it bad.

- 2nd player god mode or fake co op
- complete lack of diversity in levels as everything you do is meant to lead you to an open area to a boring fight.

Give me either meaningful story to balance out the terrible gameplay or great gameplay to balance our your mediocre story.
