PS3 Devs SEGA and Capcom Scared of Halo 3 Release

PS3 Center reports: It seems that according to rumors Capcom and SEGA are going to hold off on releasing and developing certain PS3 games as they want to wait and see how the market is after Halo 3 releases on the Xbox 360. This could be a possible sign that Capcom and SEGA want to see what kind of impact Halo 3 has on the video game market and how many sales of Xbox 360 units it garners. The news came at TGS when both companies stated that many PS3 games they had in development are now on hold. It is not a good sign that major developers such as SEGA and Capcom are basing releases on how well Halo 3 does...at least not good for PS3 fans.

TGS 2007: Rumble Confirmed

IGN reports: "Big shocker at today's Electronic Arts pre Tokyo Game Show press event. While playing a demo of Burnout Paradise, we felt something that we never thought we'd feel from a PS3 controller -- shake! That's right, Burnout Paradise is the first rumble-equipped PS3 game we've ever played. Which made us think at the time, if the game is making the controller shake, the controller must be a new version of the Sixaxis! In fact, the controller we were using to play the demo looked exactly like a standard Sixaxis, except that it had a sticker on the bottom that said "RUMBLE." It also felt notably heavier than the standard Sixaxis."

TGS 2007: Konami Pokes Fun At PS3 User Base

At Konami's TGS press event earlier this week an executive for the company couldn't help but join in for some good old-fashioned PlayStation 3 teasing. The comment came from Kazuya Takahashi, Online Contents Production, Exec. Dir., as he was discussing Konami's plans for mobile phones. While making a point about how every consumer has a mobile phone (and it is therefore the biggest market for gaming), he asked everyone in attendance who had a Wii. Next, he asked who had a Nintendo DS. Finally he asked, "How many of you have a PlayStation 3? Probably none." Of course, Konami then brought out Hideo Kojima to show off the latest trailer for its PS3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4. So it had better hope one or two people have a PS3 by the time it comes out.

Sony announces latest PlayStation sales figures

So where do the PlayStation platforms stand? PS2 is sitting pretty at over 120 million units sold. PSP is at a respectable 26 million sold, with 30 million expected to be surpassed shortly. So where does that leave PS3? According to Kaz, PS3 has sold in between 5 and 6 million units, leaning slightly towards the 5 million end. Expectations are high for the holidays however - Sony expects to reach 11 million PS3's by the end of the year. We reckon reaching that goal without a price cut will be a challenge and perhaps even miracle.

Microsoft Remind Japan What 360 Games Look Like

Kotaku: Poor Microsoft Japan. They can't catch a break! All these big games and nobody in Japan cares. Not even for Halo 3. Not even for Blue Dragon. In a desperate, last-ditch attempt at shifting their units, their TGS booth was dominated by this: a wall featuring the disc and cover art of every 360 game on the market. Didn't look like it got the job done, since I was the only person I saw actually paying attention to it, but hey, at least it looked nice. Click through for a closer shot.

Bandai Namco is also working a costume system that will allow you to freely change your characters' costumes. Accompanying this is an increase in costume variations.

TGS '07: Phil Harrison on Dual Shock 3

Sony president Kaz Hirai apologized for not having enough time to really go into details about Dual Shock 3, so GameSpot caught up with Sony Worldwide Studios boss Phil Harrison to find out a little more. Harrison told GameSpot that the primary reason that the company bought back the Dual Shock rumble controller was that people wanted it. He said, "A lot of people have been asking for it, and now we've done it." He also explained that there is no learning curve required for developers to implement Dual Shock into PlayStation 3 games, as the system to do so is exactly the same as the one which was used for the PlayStation 2.
