The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has finally arrived, and franchise fans are ecstatic to continue their adventure as Link. The new title picks up after Breath of the Wild and offers even more locations, abilities, and gameplay features within an unfamiliar Hyrule.
This adds a particular air of excitement to the game’s launch, and players are eager to share their progress. Luckily, you can accomplish this with the returning camera mode. Once activated after the Camera Work in the Depths quest, you can take photos and selfies throughout the kingdom.

How Do You Take Pictures in Tears of the Kingdom?
Just like in Breath of the Wild, you can use the camera mode to take pictures in Tears of the Kingdom. Follow these steps to use the camera:
- Press L on your left bumper to access your Abilities wheel
- Choose the camera option
- Use Up and Down on your D-Pad to zoom if necessary
- Rotate your shot with the right joystick if need be
- Press A to take a photo
You may also press X while the camera is open to take a selfie rather than photograph scenery, enemies, or your creations. Be sure to save and register the photos you’ve taken if you want to add them to your Compendium. To view your photo album, press the minus (–) button.

How To Unlock Camera Function
To unlock the camera function, you first need to speak to Robbie at Lookout Landing. After you speak to him, the quest Camera Work in the Depths will start. You’ll be glad to know that once you are further into the quest, Robbie will then unlock the camera feature and you will be able to take photos and even selfies.
How Do You Take Selfies in Tears of the Kingdom?
To take selfies in Tears of the Kingdom, open your camera and switch to selfie mode by pressing the X button. Then, capture your photo by pressing the A button.
How Do You Take Screenshots in Tears of the Kingdom?
Taking screenshots in Tears of the Kingdom works the same on every Nintendo Switch console. To do this, just press the square button with a circle inside of it on your left JoyCon or the left side of your Switch Lite.
To view the screenshots you’ve taken, you’ll need to exit the game and access your system settings. Follow these steps:
- Select System Settings from your home screen
- Scroll down and select Data Management
- Scroll down and select Manage Screenshots and Videos
- Select Manage Individual Images and Videos
Doing so will take you to your gallery, where you can view or delete the screenshots and videos you’ve taken in each of your games, including Tears of the Kingdom.
