How Do Shields Work in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Shields can be equipped in Link’s offhand, but only while wielding a one-handed weapon. Once you have the shield equipped, you can press ZL to bring up the shield, and holding this button will have Link keep the shield up. You can use the Left D-pad to change shields.
Shields also allow Link to parry attacks. You must perform the parry at the exact right time, or Link will whiff the parry and get struck. That said, if you nail the parry, then you can deliver a powerful counterattack.
