Most of the time, The Finals is a fun game. It’s fast-paced and competitive. Your experience will differ through different classes, and you also have an opportunity to customize things to your liking. Generally speaking, it’s a dynamic PvP, which is always enjoyable. Unfortunately, some The Finals players are just out of luck and come upon a team comp that is impossible to beat.
A Diverse Team Might be a Better Option
One devoted player, fonfan121, shared their frustration on Reddit. They said: “Well I just had the awe and unpleasantness of facing a full Medium team on Power Shift”. This opening line is already anxiety-inducing because, in a situation like that, there isn’t much one can do.
The OP continued: “I think all but one of them had APS, which meant we couldn’t use explosives to dislodge them, combo’d with all of them using heal beams means we can’t even chip them to death at range. Add in defibs… you get the picture. All in all, our team managed to push the platform for about… 20 seconds. Everything else was just trying to stop the enemy from advancing, which for the above reasons, obviously didn’t work”.
The community gathered in support of this player. Mambosaurio noted: “A team full of a single class is horrendous in power shift, each class for its own particular reasons”. And as unfair as that sounds, it’s completely true. The OP remarked: “Lights can either snipe everyone into oblivion or swarm the platform, Heavies have the firepower and shields to hold it and Mediums just tank everything”.
Other players gave some good advice on how to deal with a team like that. One of them, figgens123, suggested: “Need one Heavy with a Goo gun. You can get rid of every single APS in one clip. Also, you can have that Heavy shoot at the bottom of the platform and the APS will still eat it. Run some more Heavies with Charge n Slam or Flamethrower. Have one Light with a gateway. Teleport Heavies above point for slam or just right on point”. As cool as this advice sounds, it might be hard for a team to coordinate this well.
Fans Disagree About Team Comp
Among other suggestions, players listed Data Reshaper and Glitch Grenades. One fan, jsrhb, offered a fresh perspective. They said: “That’s why I’m always the person switching my class to whatever is needed on the team if the teammates are insisting on being their favorite class instead of doing team play”.
Of course, some pointed out that there was nothing wrong with a homogenous team. Djohnson8S said: “So you are saying a well-organized team is quite hard to defeat? Almost as if this game pushes cooperation”. In our opinion, sure, but this was more of a balancing issue. Unfortunately, as CautiousFool pointed out: “Power shift is a casual game mode, the game will not be balanced around it”.
So, if at one point your team comes across a nearly unbeatable team, you now have some ideas on how to face them. After all, always remember that all it takes is one person to turn the whole game around. Why not be that person for your team? You can always count on getting more advice from your community.
