Take a turtle the size of a sumo wrestler, and give it two giant water rockets and what do you get? One of the most beloved Pokemon since the first Pokemon games (Pokemon Red and Blue), that’s what. Though Squirtle mostly used to go to our rival, Blue, because Charizard was too tough to pass up, Pokemon Unite players have the opportunity to play as Blastoise themselves to see if they made the wrong decision all those years ago. Although unlocking Blastoise as a playable Pokemon is pretty straightforward, the fact of the matter is that there’s no way to get your hands on it without having to first use one of the four in-game currencies. How to Purchase Blastoise License in Pokemon Unite
While there are some Pokemon that can be unlocked by meeting specific conditions, completing certain challenges, or maybe logging in at the right time, Blastoise can only be unlocked by purchasing its Unite Licence from the Unite Battle Committee.
The Unite Battle Committee is one of the many shops in Pokemon Unite. While other shops might specialize in items or cosmetics, this one exclusively sells Unite Licenses to players, which enables them to take specific Pokemon into battle whenever they want.
Purchase the Unite License of a Pokemon, and you’ve effectively unlocked it permanently. The price of a purchasable Pokemon could range from 8000 Aeos coins (or 345 gems) to 15,000 Aeos coins (or 575 gems).

Step 1: Gather or Buy Enough Aeos Coins or Gems
Unlocking Blastoise, as mentioned above, isn’t free. If you want to purchase its Unite License, then you will first need to have either 8,000 Aeos coins or 460 Aeos gems. While that’s the same exact price as the Kanto grass starter Venusaur, weirdly enough, that makes both Blastoise and Venusaur more expensive to purchase than Charizard, who’s the most popular of the three.
Because the only way to get Aeos gems is by purchasing them using actual money, we recommend grinding Aeos coins to buy Blastoise instead. Aeos coins can be farmed using multiple methods, like playing matches, competing objectives, and participating in events.
Step 2: Purchase Blastoise’s Unite License
Now that you’ve collected enough coins or gems to purchase Blastoise’s Unite License, you just need to buy it from the Unite Battle Committee. To do this:
- Launch Pokemon Unite, log in to your account, and reach the main menu.
- Locate the Shops tab near the bottom, and click or tap on it (depending on your device).
- On the shop screen, click on the Unite Battle Committee. It should be the first option towards the left side of the screen.
- As soon as you click it, you’ll be taken to a screen that will have every purchasable Pokemon. Look for Blastoise, and click on its icon.
- Finally, when asked if you’re sure, simply select Yes and that’s it!

Blastoise is one of the beefiest Pokemon in the game with its above-average Endurance stat. When paired with the right build, you’ll be able to not only protect your allies better but also blast the enemy away with water.
