How To Breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Though we keep seeing new entries in the Pokémon franchise, some things certainly never change. Whether that’s Professors, Gyms, or an evil organization trying to take control of the world, you’ll find some recurring concepts that have become staples over nine generations of mainline Pokémon innings. One iconic staple is the mechanics of breeding and hatching your Pokémon.

How To Breed Pokémon In Scarlet And Violet

To breed Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, all you need to do is set up a picnic on a flat surface in the wild with two Pokémon (one male and one female) in the same Egg Group, or a breedable Pokémon like Ditto. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Make sure you have two Pokémon in your team that can be used for breeding
  2. Find a flat surface
  3. Press X for the main menu
  4. Next select the option called Picnic

Simply wait while your Pokémon play, bathe, or change decorations and check the basket at the end of the table periodically. You’ll be notified when your Pokémon have laid an egg and you can take it out of the basket. Repeat the process until you have all the eggs you need.

How To Increase Your Breeding Chances

In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, sandwiches and food items serve a multitude of purposes including increasing the breeding rate of your Pokémon.

Across Paldea, you can find numerous food shops that offer various food items such as the Tropical Sandwich, Four-Piece Sushi (Moon Set), Smoked Fillet with Herbs, and Compote du Fils, that can boost your Pokémon’s Egg Power. Alternatively, you can craft your own sandwiches using ingredients that provide Egg Power.

How To Hatch Pokémon Eggs

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, hatching eggs work similarly to previous games, relying on the distance walked. However, with the introduction of Koraidon and Miraidon, the new transportation options in the game, hatching eggs has become even more convenient.

As you explore the Paldea Region, you can ride on the back of your transport Pokémon where you can start running, gliding, and swimming to your heart’s content. All the while, your Pokémon egg will be incubating and waiting to hatch.

When the egg is ready to hatch, you’ll receive a notification and your transportation Pokémon will stop moving. You’ll be treated to a cute animation that shows the hatching process that will reveal the Pokémon you’ve bred.
