Witnessing Yanma evolving into Yanmega has long been a rare spectacle for players, but that changes with the introduction of the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Teal Mask. Triggering the evolution into Yanmega has been made easier than ever, and players are enjoying every bit of it. If you’re someone who wants to join in on the fun, keep on reading as we dissect exactly how you can evolve your baby Yanma into a Yanmega!
How to Evolve Yanma Into Yanmega in The Teal Mask
To evolve Yanma into Yanmega, you first have to ensure that it has reached Level 33. Then, you have to teach your Yanma the Ancient Power move. You can find this move in its moveset and make the Pokémon remember it by following the below steps:
- Go to “Check summary” and click on the second tab to arrive at the ‘Moves and Stats’ menu.
- Press A on your controller and then click on “Remember moves”.
- Scroll down to the Ancient Power move and select it to add it to Yanma’s moveset.
Once your Yanma has remembered this move, you have to level it up one more time by feeding it candies or training it. After leveling up, it will evolve into a Yanmega.
However, if you’re here before capturing a Yanma and drooling over how cool a Yanmega can be, then keep on reading to find out how you can find the Bug/Flying-type Pokémon for yourself.
How to Get Yanma in The Teal Mask
Since Yanma takes inspiration from a dragonfly, it is no wonder that it loves to fly around woody and rocky areas. Thus, luckily, they are not an uncommon spawn; you can find them flying around just by exploring the Kitakami region. However, if you are having difficulty finding one, there are certain areas where we have consistently found the Pokémon.
A good starting place would be the area between the Apple Hills and the Kitakami Road – simply explore the area along the road until you spot one. If this area doesn’t work, then you can try exploring the following locations: Oni Mountain, Kitakami Wilds, Wistful Fields, and Crystal Pool. Make sure that you start your hunt when it’s still daylight as Yanmas seem to vanish during the night.

Once you track a Yanma down, you’ll need to battle it to capture the Pokémon. Yanma is a dual-type Bug/Flying Pokémon that is immune to Ground-type and resistant to Fighting, Bug, and Grass-type attacks. So, the optimal Pokémon types to battle the insectoid would be Flying, Rock, Fire, Electric, or Ice.
However, Yanma isn’t the strongest Pokémon out there, so you’ll have to be careful while battling it so as not to knock it down. We suggest that you try your luck by throwing a Quick Ball at the start of the battle.
