How to Clean Sand From Machines in My Time at Sandrock

Need to learn how to clean sand from machines in My Time at Sandrock? Stick around. We’ll cover everything you need to know to keep your machinery up and running, including the equipment you’ll need to get the job done.

In My Time at Sandrock, your work as a Builder doesn’t just involve constructing machinery for commissions and expanding your workshop. To keep productivity up, you’ll need to take good care of the equipment at your disposal. This means cleaning machines that have been soiled with sand. Because Sandrock weathers sandstorms often, this practice should become a regular component of your routine. Otherwise, dirty machines will slow down and grow inefficient. Fortunately, upkeep is made easy with the help of an item that you can put together early on. Here’s how to clean up your machinery.

How to Remove Sand From Machines in My Time at Sandrock

In order to clean sand from machines in My Time at Sandrock, you’ll first need to get your hands on a feather duster. You can craft this item from early on in the game, so obtaining it won’t cause you too much trouble. You’ll just need the necessary materials to put one together at your worktable.

Once you start to see sand gathering at the foot of your machinery, it’s time to clean up. If you’re unsure whether a machine is dirty, look for a small orange icon depicting a feather duster above the item, as pictured in the above image. Like other equipment, you can add the feather duster to your quickbar for easy access. I recommend doing so upon obtaining the item, as you’ll use it fairly often.

To start cleaning, you’ll need to use the same input as other equipment, such as your stone axe or weapons. Be sure to get close enough to highlight the machine you want to clean. Continue until the sand is entirely removed from the affected area.

Players beware: There is currently a bug that prevents the cleaning action from functioning properly. Luckily, it’s easily fixed by picking up your machines and placing them back down after using the feather duster.

How to Get the Feather Duster in My Time at Sandrock

You can purchase the blueprints for a feather duster at the Commerce Guild Shop from the beginning of your playthrough in My Time at Sandrock. This is done at the register just inside the building. There isn’t a fixed shelf price for the item, as market price fluctuates slightly from one day to the next. However, the difference won’t make or break the bank. I paid 94 Gols for the item’s blueprints.

One you have the instructions, you can get to crafting a feather duster at your worktable. Fortunately, the required materials aren’t difficult to come by in the Quarry behind your workshop. Here’s a rundown of what you’ll need:

  • x2 Wooden Sticks
  • x5 Feathers
  • x2 Thin Thread

Note: I had a hard time finding feathers, as I thought they could only be obtained by cutting down trees. However, this is illegal in Sandrock. Instead of harming native plants, you can simply kick trees and cacti to find feathers, eggs, and bird’s nests.
