Mortal Kombat 1 promises to be a grand reset for the revered franchise, courtesy of a new universe created by the Fire God, Liu Kang. The game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games as a soft reboot for the series. Players are already rearing to jump into the fray, but some may be asking if their old-gen platforms will be supported by the new release. Let’s dive in and find out the details.
Can you play Mortal Kombat 1 on old-gen consoles?
No, unfortunately, Mortal Kombat 1 is not launching on last gen consoles. That means that while MK1 is being released on all current consoles, all of their old generation counterparts will be without a release. This includes PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while players who play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC will be able to play Mortal Kombat from day one.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 get a later release on last-gen consoles?
Currently, there is no news about the possible release of Mortal Kombat 1 on the previous generation of consoles. The game releases in September for the current generation of platforms, and everything is gearing up for the main release window. If there are any new updates about the old-gen release, those will likely be announced later on, if at all.
Meanwhile, players on the current-gen platforms will get the exclusive opportunity to delve into the arena with an unprecedented roster, including fan-favourite characters like Scorpion, Johny Cage, Kitana, Mileena, Raiden, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, and many more.
