Does Mortal Kombat 1 Need To Be Always Online?
Mortal Kombat 1 does not need a a constant internet connection in order to play the game on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store. The game can be played offline, but some of its its multiplayer modes will require an internet connection in order to play. The official Mortal Kombat 1 website FAQ states the same just as plainly:
“An internet connection is not required to play Mortal Kombat 1, although players will need to be connected to the internet to experience certain modes and features.”
Players will be able to enjoy the single-player Story Mode without being connected to the internet, but playing matches against others online will require it naturally. Players will also need a PlayStation Plus subscription, Xbox Game Pass Core membership, or Nintendo Switch Online membership to enter multiplayer matchmaking for online multiplayer.
