Quite unexpectedly, a whole faction has been wiped out from the Galactic Map. The Automatons are eliminated but will they make a comeback in Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2 is a squad-based sci-fi shooter, where you and your mates fight off invasions from alien enemies. As the game progressed, the tables turned, and one of these alien factions, The Automaton Collective, was the one getting invaded. The operation was so successful that every last bot was removed from the face of the Galactic Map. Is that it? Are Automatons completely eliminated from Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2: The Elimination of the Automatons
Ever since their first appearance in Helldivers 2, the Automatons were a thorn in Super Earth’s side. Every attack on the western side of the Galaxy was rebuffed, one way or another, Malevelon Creek being the most famous example. As time progressed, more and more Helldivers joined the war and the focus was on the eastern, Terminid-infested, side of the Galaxy. But, all that was about to change.
The new operation, titled Swift Disassembly, shifted the attention back to the Automatons and had the goal of swiftly capturing a couple of planets. That turned out way too successful, and the whole operation turned into a wipe-out. On March 07, the last Automaton planet fell to Super Earth’s forces. Helldivers can finally claim a total victory.
Is That the Last of the Automatons?
The bots have been completely wiped out. At the time of writing, the only enemy you can fight in Helldivers 2 are the Terminids. But, more and more rumors and leaks surfaced heralding the arrival of a new faction. Does that mean that we won’t be seeing any more Automatons?
While we cannot confirm or deny this, we doubt that that was the last we saw of the Automatons. Story-wise, these were just their probing attacks. The bulk of the Automaton forces bent on conquering Cyberstan, is yet to arrive. From the more technical side, it is highly unlikely that the developers will just toss a whole faction, with the files, designs, and everything related to the bots, into the bin.
Community’s Thoughts and Reactions on the Automaton Wipe-Out
The Helldivers community, while ecstatic about the victory, firmly believes that this is not the last of the Automatons. In one Reddit post, after all the celebrations and commemorations, a number of players claim that the bots will be making a return. xX_Drakon-141_Xx says “So is this like the equivalent of the end of Act 1 for the game…” Another Redditor agreed, stating that the developer did the same thing in the first Helldivers game and that there is no way that the whole faction will be thrown out.
We believe that this is just the calm before the storm. In a couple of days, we’ll be seeing attacks from all sides, with improved Terminids, the second wave of the Automatons, and the new Illuminate faction all attacking at the same time. Remember that this is just speculation on our part and no official confirmation was given by the Arrowhead team.
