Build Variety Could Be Achieved Without Nerfs According to Helldivers 2 Players
All Helldivers will admit that their favorite game has had some issues lately. It all started with the majorly hyped-up Escalation of Freedom update that flopped. The players were unsatisfied and asked for immediate fixes, but the devs were slow to respond. This further soured the community’s thoughts on Arrowhead. On August 20, AH dropped the first in the series of patches meant to fix the game, they probably accidentally nerfed a weapon in the process. Aside from the annoyed players who flooded social media, a group of dedicated Helldivers 2 players offered doable ideas that could allow bigger build variety without unwanted nerfs.
A Devoted Helldiver Shares Their Idea for Increasing the Build Variety
As you probably know, the entire idea behind all the nerfs is just to have all the weapons on approximately the same level, so none would be “meta”. Basically, the devs follow which weapons are the most used ones and balance them so they aren’t overpowered. Unfortunately, players adore OP weapons, as they are the most fun to use.
One player, shortgoose, came up with an idea that could potentially steer the players from using the same weapons over and over again. They noted: “Knowing what enemies will be present on a mission would encourage build variety”.
This player explained: “On the bot front you generally see a bit of everything each mission. Against bugs though, there’s a huge variability in what you might see each mission. Unlike bots where the AC can handle just about everything, various bugs are much easier to fight with different weapons”.
They suggested: “I propose a Ship upgrade module that tells you what enemies to expect on a given mission similar to how we can tell what effects are on a planet before choosing a mission. Perhaps leave Stalkers out of that as them showing up out of nowhere is sort of their thing”.

Helldivers 2 Players Support the Idea and Offer Their Own
Most of the players supported this idea, as it would allow them to create specialized builds. One player, finder787, stated: “I would feel better being able to pick a better weapon to fight the most common enemy type. No more gambling that my primary weapon will be almost useless for 40 minutes”.
Some Helldivers 2 players chimed in with their own ideas on how to increase the build variety. RemarkableSalary288 suggested: “What about a Stratagem or a Booster that lets you switch your loadout during missions? Like, you select 2-3 loadouts for it that, you then can switch and the Booster or Stratagem is limited use. Like you can request it only 2-3 times per mission to balance it”.
So, do you think knowing which enemies you will face would change your preferred build? Honestly, it would change ours, we mostly pick weapons that are fine for all enemy types, but if we knew we were fighting an exact enemy, that would probably allow us to try out some more specialized weapons.
