As we all know, grind is an integral part of The First Descendant. The prospect of unlocking a new character or weapon is what keeps the players invested and coming back. However, sometimes that grind can go too far, and you can repeat the same mission or boss battle dozens of times before you get the item you are looking for. Especially with all the trouble you have to go through to get the Amorphous Material Pattern you want, and in the end, a random roll determines what you get.
Letting Players Share the Loot May Be the Way to Go
There are ideas, like the one in Unusual-Surprise9992’s Reddit post, suggesting that if the players shared the loot after a Void Intercept battle, it would reduce the grind and make the game more enjoyable. Specifically, the idea is that you’d select your AM for the boss battle, as will all the players, and at the end, you’d “get” one item from every AM selected to choose from, and you’d have to pick one. If different AMs are selected at the beginning, you’d be presented with various choices. Alternatively, you could all pick the same AM, to increase the chance of getting the item you’re target farming. Additionally, it would encourage team play a lot more.
Players agree, with lacqs03 saying: “Yeah this, with more players more option for loots…Not everyone can solo a hard boss and it’s a coop game so they should promote coop not solo play…“ and CommunicationAway387 added: “That’s one suggestion I never see anyone even mentioned. 100% agree! Especially when 4 of us would target farm together the same pattern, it would be way more fun as well!“
Grinding Is What Keeps The Game Afloat
But, not everyone agrees with loot sharing. A lot of players state that The First Descendant IS grinding. Making it easier would just make the players “finish” the game faster and move on to other things. “I absolutely want to see this change happen but I don’t think it can. There is not enough content in the game to support this. By that I mean, this would make the grind faster but that’s basically the only content in the game…” said alexman113. If you make grinding easier, “everyone would have everything maxed out fast, then complain there’s nothing to do.” as stated by BucDan.
User alesserrdj said it best: “In its current state, for the average player, there is always something to chase. That is good for longevity. Sharing loot will fast forward everything and turn this game from a potential mainstay into a casual pit stop.”
We understand that repeating the same mission/boss battle over and over again can be frustrating (we’ve all been there), but the truth is that grinding is what keeps the players invested. But, some improvements would be welcomed, and practically everyone would want to see the “pity” system implemented. Devs said something similar is in the works so we just have to wait and see.
