The recent update and Warbond left many devoted players begging for more. All the changes and the nerfs changed the players’ approach to the game. Unfortunately, some players even quit the game due to these issues. Well, what if we told you there might be a way for you to go back to the pre-nerf Helldivers 2, simply by playing older versions of the game?
A Helldiver Travels Back in Time to Older Versions
Historically speaking many great discoveries were made by accident, and so was this one. A devoted Helldiver, leem919, was away for a while, and they missed the recent update. Upon their return, they found out that they could still launch the game and play the pre-update version. This fact seeded a much bigger idea in the player’s mind
They then went on a journey of trying to find their favorite version of the game. This player shared: “I trial-and-errored my way through what looked to be every major version since February 6th using DepotDownloader. I eventually found that I was able to get into my ship on the April 29th build”.
According to this player, everything worked perfectly fine except the new planet types and the last two Warbonds. Also, seeing how they technically play in the past, Quickplay doesn’t work. So, apart from sharing the discovery, this player was also wondering if Quickplay would become an option if more players were to join them in the older version.
The player also noted: “All progression was saved and worked fine when I returned to the latest version of the game”. So, if you want to experience “better performance, weapon balancing, enemy types, and their balancing”, you can follow the OP’s directions and join them in the past.
According to several players, if you want to try this out, better do it soon. Audisek joked: “Tomorrow’s patch notes: Fixed versions of the game that were more fun being playable”. Griffin_Throwaway added: “Now we sit back and wait for the ‘I got banned’ posts to swarm in”.
Players Share Possible Helldivers 2 Lore Explanations
The more creative side of the Helldivers 2 community was revealed as they tried to find a lore explanation for how a single Helldiver ended up exploring the older versions. There were many solutions such as the time warp from the Meridia black hole, or the “Terminator Gambit”.
One player, acatohhhhhh, stated: “Helldivers were so fed up with Super Earth cutting costs on their weapons that they somehow traveled back in time to when they were actually good just so that they could have a fighting chance”. More than 1,5k Helldivers agreed with this idea.
Budget cuts were on everyone’s mind. GTCvEnkai elaborated: “A Helldiver was so fed up with Super Earth’s constant budget cuts, they went and found a mothballed Super Destroyer with the older, higher quality equipment and ran off with it illegally. Which is why he can’t get other Helldivers in a squad and why Super Earth hasn’t really done anything”.
We sincerely hope that Arrowhead won’t do anything about this discovery. There is just something nostalgic about the older versions of Helldivers 2, even though it’s only been a couple of months. So, if you see someone wandering around pre-black-hole Meridia with an Eruptor, that’s probably us.
