With the addition of level 10 difficulty in the recent update, Helldivers are coming up with various ideas on how to adapt their gameplay. Some insist on standing their ground and soldiering on, while others prefer to stay alive long enough to finish the mission. Now, the latter Helldivers 2 players are spilling the beans on the strategy that will help you when you feel overwhelmed.
Devoted Helldivers Share an Unexpected Strategy
Players shared a Helldivers 2 strategy that helped them when the game became too hard. Nowadays, with all the nerfs and new enemies, players tend to stress over constantly being swarmed. Bruhdingus has found a way to overcome this.
They noted: “I severely underestimated the power of just running away in this game. I’ve figured out that leaving fights rather than staying and fighting is infinitely better. Objective overrun? Leave, come back in like two minutes, nobody’s there. Praise Democracy”.
Now, this might be a new approach for Helldivers 2 players, but the veterans of the first installment of the game are quite familiar with it. John_Graham_Doe reported: “This was a huge part of the first game. If the enemy calls for reinforcements, you retreat IMMEDIATELY. I think that is what AH was going for in this game as well, just porting that same play style over”.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean you should avoid every battle, we’re all playing because we enjoy fighting those pesky bots and bugs. It means that you can pick your battles, especially on higher difficulty levels.
One player, rapkat55, explained: “You’re not running away from everything, you’re just fighting over what matters and not throwing away time/lives over pointless 5 min king of the hill sessions in the middle of bumf**k nowhere that you gain nothing from”.
Some Players Would Never Retreat
As you might have expected, this strategy still isn’t widely accepted in the Helldivers 2 community. Some players pointed out they didn’t want to play a Running Simulator, they wanted to die for democracy. Some players were more extreme than others. LiteratureLimp198 exclaimed: “Death is better than running. I’ll drop somewhere else when I die”.
Siritachi31 added: “The game is literally advertised as fighting hordes of enemies and being overpowered. I did not buy this game to shoot two bugs and run away for 40 minutes. Only to hope a bigger worse bug doesn’t spawn on top of an objective. It is extremely s**tty design to require running away from most fights”.
While these comments are also valid, we’d suggest you try playing both ways, especially on higher difficulty levels. Sometimes, retreating is the way to go, if you’re overwhelmed. And, with all of the recent changes, who isn’t? So, try out something new, you might actually find it helpful. Whichever strategy you pick, we’re sure your fellow Helldivers 2 players will appreciate the effort.
