If you’ve already begun to create your Arisen and your Pawn companion in Dragon’s Dogma 2, then you might be wondering what a “moniker” is and why you have to choose them for your characters. We’ve got your answer here. Stick around for everything you need to know.
When you create your Arisen and your Pawn companion in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can build pretty much every aspect of both characters, from their general builds to their names. During the process, you’ll also be asked to bestow them with a moniker. This isn’t a term that’s used much nowadays, but it’s basically a way to refer to one’s name in a more casual way. So, what does this have to do with your character? Does it affect your playthrough at all? Here’s what you need to know about choosing a moniker and how it affects your Arisen and Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
- Pre-order Bonus: Superior Weapons Quartet
- English (Playback Language)
What Is a Moniker in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
During the character creation process in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll be asked to choose a moniker for your Arisen and your Pawn. For all intents and purposes, this is essentially just a nickname. With this in mind, it would have been cool to see your character referred to as your chosen moniker by other characters they’ve become close with, especially considering the Beloved System has received a necessary lift. However, you’re most often referred to as “the Arisen” throughout the game and your moniker is only seen by other players.
How Monikers Work in Dragon’s Dogma 2
As mentioned, monikers are nicknames that are chiefly used to identify your Arisen and Pawn to other Dragon’s Dogma 2 players. If you’ve given both characters upstanding names, then others will see both displayed. However, those who have given their characters inappropriate names will only have their monikers on display for others to see.
It’s assumed that this was done as a way to ensure that the Pawns you create can still be used by others without issue. And this does make sense, given you can browse the companions created by other players in the Rift, including those made by a host of celebrities and influencers. Whether you’ve kept your characters’ names PG or not, they’ll remain available for others to employ as they wish.
