Should You Let Astarion Bite You and Drink Your Blood in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Astarion is one of the earliest companions and a potential romance interest in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, after you recruit Astarion as your companion, you might encounter a unique scenario where you wake up in the middle of the night only to find Astarion ready to sink his fangs in your throat for a sip of blood, revealing that he’s a Vampire Spawn. So, if you are looking for the right move to make in this encounter, we have your back.
Should I Give Astarion My Blood?
Yes, you should let Astarion bite you in Baldur’s Gate 3, as it boosts your bond with him and unlocks his Vampire Bite Bonus Action. However, make sure you stop him using either a Strength check or a Persuasion check before he gets carried away after taking a sip, as Astarion will attempt to drink more blood and can end up killing your character.
When you wake up to Astarion looking to bite, you have the option of refusing him or letting him drink your blood. Choosing any of the options has great implications for you and Astarion in the story. Let’s take a deeper look at what exactly happens when you choose either of these options.
What Happens If You Let Astarion Bite You?
Accepting Astarion’s bite will boost your favor with the high elf rogue and make it easier for your character to engage in romance with him later on. The physical effects of a successful bite are highly minor as your character will receive a Bloodless debuff, which will result in a -1 penalty to Attack Rolls, Saving Throws, and Ability Checks until you take a long rest.
On the other hand, allowing Astarion to consume your blood will cause him to become extremely powerful and unlock Vampire Bite. This is another reason why it is best to allow Astarion to bite you, as it increases your team’s overall power.
If Astarion drinks your blood, he will get a Happy status effect and gain the plus one in Attack Rolls, Saving Throws, and Ability Checks. But, while Astarion gets the Happy buff, you will get the Bloodless debuff. Both of these statuses last until you finish the next Long Rest.
However, if you let Astraion drink too much of your blood, there is a risk of death for your character. In such a scenario, you’ll be prompted to do a die roll to pass the checks. If you end up failing both dice rolls, your character will surely die. At this point, you’ll end up taking control of another party member and can revive your character using a Scroll of Revivify.
What Happens If I Don’t Let Astarion Bite Me?
If you don’t let Astarion bite you, your approval rating with him will go down, making it difficult for you to romance him later in the story. When it comes to unlocking this Vampire Bite action, Astarion will simply hunt a wild animal and drink its blood instead to unlock the Vampire Bite ability.
You also have the option of killing Astarion when he is about to bite you by driving a stake inside his heart. Doing this will end Astarion’s life and his questline in the story.
