Baldur’s Gate 3 – How To Become a Vampire and Gain New Powers

How long to complete Baldur's Gate 3

Looking to find out about how to become a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3? It’s possible, but you may get more than you bargained for.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game based on DnD featuring many different races. But beyond that, some players may wonder if they can become vampires as well. This is especially the case because one of the companions that joins your party, the rogue Astarion, is a vampire spawn himself. So naturally, gamers have been wondering if it’s possible to leverage Astarion to become a blood-drinker. This guide will show how to become a vampire in the game.

Can You Become a Vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Technically, yes, it is possible to become a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3. It requires a sequence of events and choices to transpire and you’ll have the option far later in the game. Namely, you won’t be able to become a vampire before Act 3.

To start on the journey to become a vampire, players will have to begin The Pale Elf quest first. During the quest, players will meet their new companion Astarion, who will in time reveal that he is a vampire spawn. Moreover, he is spawn of a mighty vampire lord from Baldur’s Gate, Cazador Szarr.

During one of the long rests in Act 1, Astarion will try to drink your blood to alleviate his thirst. This can go in a few different directions. Ultimately, it results in your character confirming his identity as a vampire spawn.

How To Turn Into a Vampire in BG3

As mentioned, there are several considerations before attempting to become a vampire. Firstly, you have to have high approval with Astarion. Then you have to play through his personal quest when you reach Act 3 and Baldur’s Gate. And lastly, you have to be romantically involved with him to be able to get the offer.

As you progress through Astarion’s story, you will learn about the ritual his master, Cazador, plans to perform. This revelation comes through the devil Raphael and the scar symbols on Astarion’s back. After deciphering the meaning, you’ll learn about the ritual of ascension that Cazador plans and why he needs Astarion back.

From there, after confronting Cazador with Astarion at your side, you will have the option to allow Astarion to hijack the ritual and perform the rites himself. This takes many sacrifices – 7000 souls to be precise, after which Astarion will ascend to a godlike vampire being. Astarion then absorbs the power of Cazador Szarr’s ritual which results in the killing of all vampire spawns in the area.

The transformation gives Astarion an upgraded bite ability and the ability to transform into mist. If you are in a romance with Astarion, he will later offer you a choice. You can become Astarion’s vampire spawn if you allow him to drink your blood again, followed by your character drinking his. However, this could have further ramifications on your relationship with the newly ascended Astarion.

If you go through with it, after taking the next Long Rest, you will gain the Bite ability, just like the one Astarion had prior to his ascension. Your new status as a vampire also unlocks other interactions with Astarion through Act 3.

Additionally, you can choose Astarion as your main character, so technically you would become a full-fledged vampire, but we need some confirmation on this.
